Yeah SH is getting attention all over because of those movies, but he's seriously had one of the greatest and most prolific careers I can think of. I'm slowly working my way through his discography which I can say has very few low points. Mostly I am obsessed with his New Wave/technopop group P-Model. The first album (In a Model Room) is great but it's astounding the heights he took it to after that. Sadly it's the only one I ever really hear anyone talking about, which I suppose would be like XTC getting its reputation from White Music alone. Listen to the album Karkador, particularly the tracks "Dance Subomp", "Cyborg", and "Leak". Or get Another Game and listen to "Personal Pulse" or "Echoes". Amazing, mindblowing stuff. The techno-oriented '92-'93 group is really damn cool as well. They're loud and super hyperactive, but his sense of melody is top notch. The albums P-Model and Big Body are kind of like two parts to one incredible album. Topnotch cuts: "2D or not 2D", "No Room", "Wire Self", "Chevron", and "Homo Gestalt". I wouldn't want to be without any of those tunes!!!

As for the solo stuff...I can say I've only heard up to Aurora. His first three (Water in Time and Space, Ghost in Science, Virtual Rabbit) are kind of like a trilogy, a mish-mash of styles with electronic overtones. They're all pretty fun and hyperactive. The song "Bandiria Travellers" is astounding. Then I heard Aurora, a much more slow-paced and downtempo album, and I was kind of shocked because I had never really heard him do that style before. The result is a masterpiece. Just listen to "Snow Blind", it's very layered and has several parts, but in the end is just kind of a complex pop song, very cool. I can't wait to hear the rest of his stuff...

Okay, so I've been listening a little more over the last few weeks. Now I'm going through everything like a fiend. I'm totally obsessed with Aurora/Fune/Sim City as some kind of incredible trilogy and have been listening to all three in row over and over again. Though Fune is a P-Model album, at this point the line between his solo work and his band work is starting to blur. I always respected his gift of melody but on those three albums it really stands out, as there is so much going on in every track. Listen to "Power to Believe" (I think it's on Youtube), it is kind of just a catchy pop song, but there are so many things going on in the background, with the vocals, just everywhere, all these intersecting melodies all over the place. I first listened to Sim City on a long highway drive and it floored me, in some spots it felt like the sound was coming from outside the car, perhaps miles away, as the music just felt too massive to be coming out of my speakers. No surprise he was mentioned in the "biggest song ever" thread.
