Just got this e-mail from Touch & Go:

Hi Gang --

Just got some breaking news from the Kill Rock Stars camp. Most exciting!

It's Elvis Presley week and everyone's goin' crazy. Celebratin' 25 years of something...

Anyway, World News Tonight with Peter Jennings is interviewing Greil Marcus about the state of rock and roll today and how it has or hasn't changed since the Elvis days. He suggested to the staff that they get some video footage of Sleater-Kinney...which means he is including SK in his interview. I've sent them a copy of the "You're No Rock n Roll Fun" video, as well as their new record "ONE BEAT".

The segment is scheduled to air tomorrow, Wednesday, August 14 on ABC.

Anyone care to take an advance stab at what he's playing at? (Mebbe he's alluded to this before - I'm by no means a voracious Marcusite...)

Who cares; set the VCR.

Urg. This is embarassing. A little Googling has revealed GM's longstanding infatuation with SK. Perhaps the 'connection' will be less of a crackpot theoretical jab than I'd hoped for..

a little Googling? how about reading any five sentences of his work? he loves them; he mentions them every chance he gets. what's wrong with that (other than it getting a little old if you read him a lot)?

M Matos, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, he loves SK. But honestly, the chances of ABC including this in an Elvis segment? Zero.

What's the big mystery? Jennings will ask what good rock bands there are nowadays, Marcus will inevitably say Sleater-Kinney. No crackpot theoretical jabs required. We might get a few seconds of S-K if we're lucky.

Incidentally, how can *I* get a copy of the You're No Rock N Roll Fun video?

On the KRS website, you ladyman.
