a lot of good staging and effects and choreography and camera work, not a lot of good music, so i'm tempted to go totally on visuals here -- Taylor's song was garbage and as usual she can't sing live for shit, but man did that whole thing look amazing

the whole Bieber 'hey he's the new teen idol so let's have girls run after him Beatles-style' thing was kinda weak considering they did the same thing for the Jonas Bros. like TWO YEARS AGO

i thought taylor swift was unconditionally beloved by (virtually) all of ilx.

an artist can't be constantly fought over if everyone likes them

and i think on the Grammys thread even the Taylor boosters were kind of like "ok she sounds terrible live, BIG DEAL"

i don't see what others see in her music to begin with, but maybe i haven't listened to enough of it.

i think teenpop-type stuff just isn't for my (old, overly-serious, fun-hating) ears.

I'm giving this to Taylor based on, yes, how gorgeous the whole thing looked on HDTV and kept me transfixed despite the song not being all that engaging. Bieber was great, Kanye was decent, NERD/Ciara was passable, Em/Rihanna was not a total trainwreck, Robyn was too short... can't think of much else to say, though.

I think it's been said in the other VMA thread, but can't believe Katy Perry didn't perform given her inescapable-ness right now.

Big budget usher performances are always fun, almost voted for him

But idk I dug the Drake performance... fancy is good and I liked the inclusion of mary -- also dug the relative classiness of the whole affair

Kanye was okay by but that song didnt sound very good -- like that he brought push out tho

Bieber was better on snl when he rapped Luda's verse
