I'm just saying, if I had to guess, a similar survey of all the people on this thread would probably average out to something lower than 7/10.

8 from me. Funny and catchy and holds up to repeat listening + I like novelty swearing in pop music. Not sure about the crybaby bit near the end though.

8. I'm going to laugh when this poll gets a 7, triggering anguish that the 'hatred wasn't large enough on ILX'.

the kelpolaris usic prize (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 16 September 2010 13:29 (fifteen years ago)

this isn't really going to give us an average anyway, because if 25 people voted 8, 5 voted 9, 2 voted 10, and 10 voted 1, it'd look like we settled on "8" but the average would be 6.5

turn in yer badge (San Te), Thursday, 16 September 2010 13:30 (fifteen years ago)

If only there was some way of seeing how many people voted for each option.

Eejit Piaf (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 16 September 2010 13:32 (fifteen years ago)

uh yea but that isn't teh same as an 'average', though the statistical merit of 'averages' is debatable anyway.....

turn in yer badge (San Te), Thursday, 16 September 2010 13:35 (fifteen years ago)

I'm suggesting that it might be possible for somebody with a maths degree to work out the average from the poll results?

turn in yer badge (San Te), Thursday, 16 September 2010 13:50 (fifteen years ago)

I actually haven't listened to the song since the first time I played it. Hate to say it but the ILX thread on the song actually ruined it for me tdue to the association. I'm sure I'll still love it next time I spin it though.

turn in yer badge (San Te), Thursday, 16 September 2010 14:04 (fifteen years ago)

with the recent brackets polls the true 'winners' weren't plainly listed in the results at the top and someone further down the thread did the math. it's not that big a deal.

One point off for the golddigger/n***er rhyme.
One point off for novelty factor.
Otherwise, good to hear a song where it's clear that every second has been thought through.

Excluding Skits and Such (Eazy), Thursday, 16 September 2010 16:39 (fifteen years ago)

This is a 10, easy. It is lyrically sharp, well-written, sarcastic, great backing vocals, catchy/hooky as shit, comes off extremely fresh despite the "throwback" nature of its influence, and is a TON of fun to sing along to. It's the catchiest, most radio-friendly song this year -- and it can't be played on radio! I played this about 4-5 times in a row on first blush. Can't say that about any other song this year.

yeah i do kinda like that 50 intro but it also highlights one of my major problems with the song which is how rapidly it switches between addressing the girl and the guy.

if it only addressed the guy i think i'd like it more.

i am going to laugh so fucking hard if the glee cast version of this song outpeaks the original in america

Since everything Glee does rockets directly to the top of the charts, this won't be surprising in the least.

"I am a fairly respected poster." (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 17 November 2010 16:22 (fifteen years ago)

Well, not exactly to the top of the charts. The Glee cast has had 89 entries in the Hot 100, but only one of those has landed in the top 10 ("Don't Stop Believin'") and only three others have been in the top 20 ("Total Eclipse of the Heart," "Poker Face," "Toxic"). From what I've read, it seems like "Teenage Dream" is likely to join that group when this week's chart is released, but I'm not sure if the Glee version of "Fuck You" is guaranteed to peak higher than #17.

Domingo Halliburton (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 November 2010 16:53 (fifteen years ago)

Hmm, I thought they were charting better than that. Guess I was just guessing based on the overexposure and their placement on the iTunes charts.

Chances are in favor of this song being #1 on rolling stone's 2010 list any up for "record of the year" grammies, which really only noteworthy because of the song's title.
