Always liked this band based ona few stray singles I'd heard and one LP, but since discovering this inzane Bone Awl Mixtape on shit-fi.com, been really obsessed with their sounds. What else is like this, besides the obvious stuff like Sarcofago? Also, which is the better LP of theirs to grab if I was to buy one, Meaningless Leaning Mess or Not For Our Feet?

have not heard inzane bone awl mixtape on shit-fi.com, but was kinda into them a couple years back. imo, meaningless leaning mess and not for our feet are all but indistinguishable, so you can't go wrong, really. personally, i prefer NFOF, but that's more due to a couple nice turns of phrase (thank you handy lyric sheet) than any musical superiority, or observable difference. "undying glare" 7-inch is likewise worth a listen, benefits from slightly sharpened sonics. but by far the best bone awl i've heard = the "night's middle" 7-inch on klaxon/NWN from last year. still raw and fast, but the sound's way cleaned up, which maybe defeats the purpose (?), but i like being able to hear what's going on - to discern the tone & attack, rather than just intuiting them from a staticky blur.

More noize dudes listen to them than metal dudes iirc. Sweet band tho

Helpful insights, contenderizer, thanks!
I guess a close comparison to this would be Ildjarn? Maybe some of the less bleak (relatively speaking, of course) Beherit shit?
Oh and this mixtape totally rekindled my (formerly passing) interest, so FYI: http://www.shit-fi.com/articles/bone_awl

I was browsing for a decent comedy on OnDemand. I dunno. Looking for an early Steve Martin movie, or hell, Caddyshack or some shit. Then, I came across the above Bone Awl article. I haven't laughed that intensely since...since...

Also, this shit is great

The article? I dunno bear. On some other planet possibly. Bon Awl is aite.

man, that is not the kind of thing i like to read.
but since it's on there, i also dig "green as he walks" from their split w/ furdidurke. again more due to the strange, thoughtful/mystical lyrics than any musical qualities that elevate this particular blaaaaahhhrghl blast above the others.

furdidurke track is better though...

More noize dudes listen to them than metal dudes iirc.
bone awl sit in this sweet spot where old punkers, noize dudes, and black metallers come together, like a rudimentary peni for the 21st century

also recommended: their terrifically-named sideproject Raspberry Bulbs, which sounds more or less exactly like Bone Awl with the metal replaced by Oi!
