I've Been POLLing in the Wind - Badly Drawn Boy's Hour of the Bewilderbeast

I like it too. Torn between about 6 of these.

I voted The Shining and then realised that I'd forgotten Magic in the Air which clearly should have been it.

His downward trajectory after this album was quite something.

I'll totally rep for a lot of About a Boy, and even for some of Fed The Fish. But yeah, spectacular fall all in all.

Although I haven't listened to this in years, I used to really love "Once Around the Block"

Such a great album, but nearly impossible to choose just one. Magic In The Air and Epitaph are both lovely ballads, but I'll have to go with Disillusion....first song I ever heard by BDB and has some great lyrics (" I didn't mean to fall in love") and a very memorable video to go with it.

Totally forgot about the haunting Egyptian/Indian sounding coda at 3:32.....this track should easily win.

Funny, I don't know why but I had the thought of staring this poll acouple days ago.

There's also the 'early tracks' CD that came with the aussie edition, theat's also excellent.

i haven't heard this in years upon years, i don't think i listened to a note after hearing that "fish" album once. which is a shame because this really is a good record (as were the two EPs that preceded it)

Haven't played this in years because of his post-About a Boy decline but I still love The Shining, Once Around the Block, Pissing in the Wind and Magic Is in the Air. Torn.

Pleasing results, but surprised no one voted for 'Epitaph', which is lo-fi balladry done extremely well.

Yeah, I presume getting tucked away at the end of the album didn't help it.

album will forever be tied to my early college years in the 00s and discovering PTA’s films.

“Cause a Rockslide” would’ve gotten my vote. The jittery arrangement sounds like something made by insects at a riverbank.

Dug this out two days ago (well, via Spotify, but we were in Krakow, so...)

He seems happier thesedays. Constant touring and so forth was sending him on a downward spiral, clearly.

I once drunkenly told him from quite a distance away how good I thought Once Around The Block was, he good naturedly said “Ah cheers.” I saw his first ever gig on a New Year’s Eve just as the first e.p. was coming out I think. People were talking and he threatened to walk off so he started as he meant to go on really.

“Cause a rockslide” is amazing, yeah, and way better and less annoying than anything animal collective did
