It's the ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIVAL of the Sway - This is my Demo POLL

Not sure if this record ever got any love on here really (tho I think Dom Passantino is a fan). I've got a huge amount of love for this album, mainly because it was one of the few records that all my friends at high school owned/loved. Sure some of it is kinda embarrassing today (Loose Woose and that bit at the end of Back 4 U where Sway gets 'run over' are particularly cringeworthy) but the good stuff (the title track, Up Your Speed, Month in the Summer) still floors me.

I'm going to assume that everything else Sway ever did, bar the Harvey Nicks remix, was total trash. Am I right?

always thought sway was one of the most underwhelming grime artists

felt he was one of the main indicators of grime getting americanized and ultimately watered down

really i think grime just died when run the road 2 got released

run the road 1: terror danjah, "destruction VIP", "happy dayz", good no lay single
run the road 2: sway, plan b, klashnekoff, bad no lay single

in other words

there isn't a whole lot that sounds like run the road 1. but run the road 2 is basically novelty tracks and half baked british versions of eminem/50/nas. the only saving grace with run the road 2 is JME.

so yeah in conclusion i was never able to make it throughout a full listen of this is my demo. :-/

Does anyone know if an uncensored version of this album exists? Because I bought it not expecting an UK album be "clean", but it was. Kinda makes a track like "Pretty Ugly Husband" lose some of its power.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 06:13 (fifteen years ago)

It's not uncensored, it's the way Sway recorded it.

always thought sway was one of the most underwhelming grime artists

Wow, there are two Titchyschneiders now? Sway isn't and never was grime, dude, he was always UKHH, which kind of invalidates the rest of your argument.

Album kind of loses it after the first seven tracks for me, but those first seven tracks are great. Voted Up Your Speed, boringly.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 09:06 (fifteen years ago)

Yes, kind of an embarassing album, but not as embarassing as the follow up. Or seeing him live the time I did which was one of the most cringey performances I've ever seen.

The Charlie Boy sketches are kind of LOL though.

Voted "Pretty Ugly Husband", "Little Derek" would've been next. Sorry this album is insufficiently sweary.

Love the idea that grime died because of a patchy Run The Road album, rather than a combination of intercenine politics, bad press, prescriptivist scene gatekeepers, police pressure and the virtual impossibility of putting on a grime night anywhere in London.

Nothing every really dies, it just mutates.

Might have voted "Why is the Birds Always Shitting On Me?" if it was an option.

Even that track was ruined for me when I saw him live at some free festival in Finsbury Park. He seemed so immensely proud of this track that he kept getting his DJ to reqind the track so he could rap it again and again. Admittedly he had apologised in advance for his performance as he'd dragged himself out of bed with the cold.
