Incubus weren't really nu-metal in their early incarnation. they were heavy-FNM leaning funk-rock

System of a Down, it's just no contest. Their s/t album is one of my favorites of all time -- Serj's creative and bizarre vocal patterns really elevate that album. Toxicity is not quite as good but still enjoyable, but Mesmerize was excellent (didn't hear Hypnotize).

about 75% of the bands in this list were fucking terrible

probably the only poll imaginable where i'm gonna vote deftones.

The answer is of course Deftones but I've never really considered them nu-metal (ditto SOAD).

San Te, have you heard Steal This Album? Billed as a collection of offcuts, but it's as good as any of their albums proper, in fact I enjoy it more than a few of them. It's most similar to the debut.

Abstaining, but would've voted for Apex Theory, Static X, Mad Capsule Markets, or Cyclefly if they were up there, easy.

The first Korn isn't bad at all.

Every time I hear a Disturbed song on the radio, it brings me a lot of pleasure, so I voted for them. I have the first two System of a Down albums but I haven't even tried to listen to them since the years I lived with my parents.

system of a down. the korn s/t also got a lot of plays. i'm totally fine with never having heard of most of these bands though.

I also enjoy Disturbed singer David Draiman's educational history, he is probably the only nu metal dude w/three semi-useless Bachelors degrees:

After attending Yeshiva High School at the Wisconsin Institute for Torah Study in Milwaukee, Draiman went to South Shore High School in Brooklyn, the Fasman Yeshiva High School, Ida Crown Jewish Academy in Chicago, Valley Torah High School in North Hollywood, California, and finally, the New England Academy of Torah (NEAT), in Providence, Rhode Island, after which he spent the 1991-1992 academic year at the Neveh Zion Yeshiva in Telz-Stone, Jerusalem. Draiman then triple majored in Business Administration, Philosophy and Political Science at Loyola University. After his schooling he went on to become a medical assistant.

OTOH Serj Tankain collects Persian rugs so maybe this one is a draw.

Serj also named a song Beethoven's Cunt, so there's that too.

Other than that piece of splendidness his solo album's not very good though.

What happened in the last 15 months?

Was there a new Decline and Fall of Western Civilization about this stuff or something?

i can't believe all the stumping for Disturbed on ILX. That band is loathsome

like most of the bands on this poll

apart from deftones/soad who are actually good and likeable

so probably not very nu-metal.

though in retrospect i think limp bizkit had some pretty good singles. i have a soft spot for more nu-metal singles than i would like to admit.

How many nu metal bands can you think of that convince their fans into believing that they are in fact "beyond nu-metal" (transcendent nu-metal?) who also pull of killer, convincing covers of Sade and Cocteau Twins? They hung out with Madonna and Jonah Matranga. THEY ARE THE BEST, PERIOD.
