They're not the greatest band ever, but I don't think they're terrible either. "Video Clip Show" is rather nice, in particular.

wanted to talk about this for ages. far more inner city and tense than i expected (maybe one day) but still with that classic sound of a train running away uncontrollably. great lyrics, tetchily dissatisfied, druggily itchy and neurotic. my album of the year so boo to the naysayers.

they sound kind of tetchy and nervous, but don't make anything of it like clinic or devo might. too in thrall to punk ideals, need to space it out a little, think about what they're doing. also: bloody annoying accents, completely ill-suited to the kind of music they're attempting. but maybe they'll adapt their problems and take them somewhere interesting. and maybe i'll get back to the subject once i've heard more than three songs. 'sink venice' is alright.

Sink Venice is a great song. I love the artwork for the album where you can stick the stickers on yourself (or not as the case may be)

and if you want tiresome art school, try joan of ass. they're the girls you hang around the bar in hope of charming, but they've spent their entire lives learning how to reject men just like you. and they think it's clever. you couldn't make it up.

Poor Romy Medina, she always did have trouble being followed around by dodgy men...

Flowersdie, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

really? i've liked what i've heard of lolita storm, but joan of ass is is just annoying. like an obnoxious kid crying or someone farting in a lift. no; it's a hen night involving chocolate cocks. and those stupid flashing devil horns. jesus, i've got a lot of bitterness in me. i need to lighten up. i'm off to get a cup of tea.

I thought Rudd was really great and One Note was alright and then the album was a horrendous letdown except for those and maybe Escalate. Never saw the fuss about Sink Venice. Also, Resende said something bout singing in a fake American accent being the stupidest thing ever then like, sung in a fake American accent lots on the album ('All chaynge in tha city o' glayss'

six months pass...
Ikara Colt is AWESOME. I saw them open for Sahara Hotnights last night and was totally enthralled. I had never heard of them before that. Now I want to buy their cd. Also, I want to be British.

They are much better live than on record. The record is pretty stale, overall.

They were good live. They started out ok, I thought "eh," then they just got louder and louder and louder and louder. By the end, they were awesome. I don't imagine this would work on cd.

I saw their first U.S. show back in October, and it was much better than I expected (I was mainly there to see the opener, this Czech band called Sunshine). Very energetic, very loose. The record, though, is extremely dry. I started off ambivalent about it, then adored it for a while and finally decided that it was a boring knockoff of other knockoffs. I would recommend passing on it, although I see it in used bins all the time for less than $5. Here's a brief piece I wrote about it.

I think I saw them as second opener for the yeah yeah yeahs.

they were crap. their songs were barely distuingishable from each other. the female kept piping up between songs with an annoying, squeaky voice that we couldn't understand.

I am not talking about the yeah yeah yeahs.

one year passes...
Oh no!

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 17 January 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

Does this make IC the first band to split during an ILM thread about their general awesomeness?

laticsmon (laticsmon), Monday, 17 January 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

seven years pass...

Pulled this from the shelf again after, well, almost ten years, I think.
And seriously rocking out!
