Good Taste Vs Good Art

Good taste is the enemy of creativity....... do people agree with this? What examples can you think of where good taste has played a part in fueling creativity (Blue Lines? Kid A? The BLueprint? )

I think that the core members of Sonic Youth have impeccable cultural taste (art/lit/music) yet their output of the last half of their career does not stand up to the first half IMHO... maybe a direct result of their taste overwhelming their art.
