2. DJ Spanish Fly 'Trigga Man' (remix)

50% hip hop panic 50% showing off

My friend is trying in vain to teach me the difference between hip hop from different American cities with violently varying degrees of success. But when he started playing me all this stuff from Memphis, I was blown away by this guy DJ Spanish Fly. It's not that I hadn't heard of him three days ago but I hadn't heard of many of these people from the same city, other than Three Six Mafia. This is fucking great though. This is a remix from 1990 from a song that originally came out in 1988. Unbelievable really when you think about it. Some good stuff on this guy's myspace and he still does a radio show now. There's another nasty piece of work called Smokin' Onions.

50% pretending to know about Balearic 50% surprise at some also ran indie band from five years ago having one song this good

I remember being distinctly unimpressed with this band in 2003 but this is ace. I missed a train in Manchester the other day and ended up spending an enjoyable hour in Piccadilly Records. I bought a comp there called Down To The Beach And Back which I can't recommend enough, mainly warm cosmic, disco oddities a couple of Danny Mekanik remixes (one good one of the Osmonds's I,I,I) and this slice of weirdness. Normally I can't imagine enjoying listening to some bunch of indie kids pretending to be late period Talking Heads but this is ace.
