Three hour drive to Houston because the Austin show sold out. Took my 7-year-old girl who is the biggest Taylor fan. Traffic delay in construction, arrived roughly 10 min before showtime. Her first concert, my first arena show in years... and totally great.

A huge audience-enthusiasm contrast from the folded-arms crowds at most of the shows I see.

Nope, I don't write about stuff anywhere except on ILX. Never had a writing gig (though I'd welcome giving it a shot for the "right" outlet).

I had a nice 5 mins reading my old "ask" thread, yep it does read like "Dear Drooper"..

I got the Banana Splits compilation DVD box recently. The kids were vaguely interested but wanted no more after episode 2.

Oh, and there's a bunch of lousy edits in it as well. The intro music/film. And there's no "uh-oh Jungle" either.

hmmm... non-"indie" rock bands on major labels, guess that's a good barometer for "mainstream"?

NIN - enjoy everything they've done, though '90s stuff clearly better than '00s

Deftones - anything from white pony onward

Tool - anything up to & including lateralus, all great, saw em live last year, great show

APC - first 2 albums, the covers record was awful tho

System of a down - first 2 albums (not a HUGE fan but they're alright i guess)

I loved Manson's Mechanical Animals back in the day... haven't heard that album in 7-8 years (sold it), but pretty sure i'd like it if i heard it again, not to mention anything that so blatantly rips chameleonic Bowie glam stuff... never liked anything else of Manson's, though

that's all older stuff debuting in the late '80s/early '90s up to 2000, though, right? i can't really think of any major label rock stuff that i've *REALLY* liked in the past 10 years, aside from one-off tunes here and there. but alternative & major label rock is not generally something i follow, it doesn't hold interest these days for me.

i like Nirvana well enough, too, if that counts. Screaming Trees, Afghan Whigs... i kinda went off on an alt-metal tip there, but i could probably think of a bunch more "mainstream" rock acts i've liked in the past 20 years. nothing too recent, though.

Smashing Pumpkins. huge fan of everything up til Machina, including Machina, which is waaaayy underrated, great record. should've closed out the pumpkins' career though, naturally.

Radiohead, but my brain doesnt really toss them in the "rock" bin at all these days. also, guess you could say '90s R.E.M., though they are more so 80s college rock/indie, etc. so talking strictly about their mainstream breakthrough once they went major label. lots of good albums in the '90s til Berry left.

hah, not a problem, i was just bored/trolling one day. had a big slice of ham w/ breakfast!

that guy should've gone ahead with that album, but he should've done it the right way, the moral way, he should've synthesized the sound of the pigs entire life cycle using only an EMS VCS 3. Then he could've got some asshole to write some liner notes and gained funding from peta.
