Who is the shining light of NYC post-Strokes success?

Do Mink Lungs nick it with their 4 track recorded wonders though?

The Rapture is WONDERFUL beyond words. "Olio" is frickin' fantastic, both the trippy dance version and the garage rock version.

The Rapture: They're great while I'm listening to them, but I've forgotten everything I've heard five minutes after the disc is ejected.

Radio 4: Just the opposite. I can't get the songs out of my head...ever! It's a pity I don't dance.

Interpol: My favorite out of all the options presented. Contemplative, aggressive, subtle, and brilliant. The melodies and instrumentation are grand enough to keep me listening for quite a long time.

What about the Liars & the Yeah Yeah Yeahs?

I agree with Paul -- while I like the Rapture, the second it's out of the player, I can't recall how it went, so to speak. And the vocals need work.

Have only seen Radio 4 live, haven't heard their studio stuff. Liked'em though.

Interpol so far are the winner. Only heard the three tracks on the last e.p. ("PDA," "NYC" and "Specialist"), but they're fantastic. Having just spotted their picture in the latest issue of ROLLING STONE, however, I must detract a couple points (they look awfully pretentious). Still, the music's good. They win.

house of jealous lovers morgan geist remix made me freak out!! To me it's the best song of 2002. I don't know Radio 4 but Interpol are too nowave-esque I think.

The Hegemon, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, Interpol aren't really "no wave"-ish at all, given their predeliction for conventioanl melody and song-structure.

when I wrote that I was thinking about when the wall of guitar kicks in in their song nyc, that reminded me of Glenn Branca. I agree my usage of the concept of no wave was a bit loose there ... wich kind of makes it ... no wave? gomen :-)

The Mooney Suzuki. Here before that other band, still here now.

Between Interpol & Radio 4, which one is likely to be better live? They're both playing here on 9/13 and I'm not really up to trying to trek to both shows:
Interpol @ Graceland or Girls vs. Boys & Radio 4 @ Crocodile Cafe. Any recommendations? Should I flip a coin? ; )

The Walkmen, The Walkmen, The Walkmen, The Walkmen, it's The motherfuckin Walkmen all the way.

i would say radio 4 would be a little bit more fun than interpol live. album wise, interpol takes the cake.
singles wise, "house of jealous lovers" is so the shit. and you're right, the morgan geist remix is almost as good as the orginal.
i'm sure its been said before, but lcd sound system is gonna be hot hot hot if they can out do the 2 song promo DFA put out a couple months ago.

Downloaded some Radio4 stuff off epitonic.com. As good as I'd hoped...and the most polished sounding of the three bands in question. Saw them open for Firewater & Clinic on the pier, and they were energetic to watch.

The Walkmen? Well, they're better live than on record....where Hamilton Leithauser's voice buries the needle on the needlessly histrionic-o- meter.

jeffrey lewis or mouldy peahes, obviously. but in reality it's the pattern or the hives.

dooomie, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs take from the No wave a little more than most and Erase Errata (although not NYC) definitely do and no wonder SY picked them to support them in the US

Mooney Suzuki are great live. Only seen Rapture live and loved. Can't get Save out City by Radio 4 out of my head.

Interpol pull all the right strings, but I am leaning more towards Radio 4 for beinf more rip roaring and making me want to dance 0 even if that would end up being badly

Exciting times for bands that remind you of good music and still sound remotely fresh

Is everyone giving Mink Lungs a wide berth then? They remind me of early Sebadoh and Teenbeat stuff like the Eggs

Radio 4's name puts me off immediately. I keep expecting to hear Humphery Littleton on saxaphone, whilst the cast of Dead Ringers do backing vocals.
