No. Weezer should live and thrive.

restorin' my damn eyes (jjjusten), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)

i would contribute to a fund that would destroy all existing copies of "hash pipe" tho

restorin' my damn eyes (jjjusten), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)

No, I will not contribute but perhaps they will break up, resulting in fruitful solo projects.

Remember the Dayne! (u s steel), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 17:39 (fifteen years ago)

I will not pay extra for something they should be doing anyway.

Lazarus Niles-Burnham (res), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:01 (fifteen years ago)

Going to laugh when they can't collect because none of the people that "pledged" were serious at all. Looking at you Ry@n Ush3r. You are your $100 pledge.

This band is an aural abortion.

Weezer makes an enjoyable single every couple years now just like they did in the '90s, I see no reason why to stop them. And honestly, even if I didn't think that, I can't think of a bigger waste of money than paying a bunch of rich guys to stop making music that's really not that hard to avoid. Will Weezer's 'legacy' be 'tarnished' any less if they stop at 6 albums after Pinkerton instead of making a dozen more?

some dude, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

the annoying thing about them is that they ARE kind of hard to avoid

crude interloper of a once august profession (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

OK i want to contest that but i feel like we're gonna end up with a Whiney thread on 77 about how often people hear Weezer songs

some dude, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:51 (fifteen years ago)

Perpetua's on full Cap'n Save-a-Weezer alert today. He attacked me with this on my facebook post first, and then elaborated on his blog.

This is so stupid, unfunny, mean, and childish. You know, no one is taking the Weezer songs you like away from you. No one is forcing you to buy Weezer albums that you don’t want. So why should these artists have to stop doing what they enjoy doing and abandon their life’s work just because you find it to be personally embarrassing and distasteful? I mean, seriously stop and think about the “life’s work” aspect of this — it’s not about you and what you like, this is someone’s life and the thing they’ve put years of themselves into, a central part of their identity. Who are you to want to take that away from them? If you don’t like something, don’t support it. You can hate it, make fun of it, whatever. But if you’re going to try to silence an artist because you don’t like them anymore, you are an asshole with an overblown sense of entitlement and an enemy of art and expression. Don’t even try to deny it.

I know this is Rivers Cuomo's life's work, but tbh there are plenty of people I wish would just pack it up and go the hell away. He can keep doing what he's doing and I don't have to respect a single bit of it, and if I want to take part in a campaign that's encouraging him to stop, I will. It's not a serious offer (at least I don't think it is). It's just an internet thing that makes people who hate Weezer 2.0 can feel good about and Rivers can address or ignore altogether.

No reason to rip a testicle over it, ffs.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:53 (fifteen years ago)

Sorry for the poor thought-to-keyboard action there.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:55 (fifteen years ago)

it's fucking retarded that this is even a "news story"

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:56 (fifteen years ago)

I'm more in favor of Weezer paying me in order to continue being a band.

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:56 (fifteen years ago)

weezer's most hardcore fans are such squealing, mewling man-children in overstretched Penny Arcade t-shirts, it's like no surprise to me that they would do something as childish as hold a fundraiser to preserve their own teenage memories.

dro™ (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:57 (fifteen years ago)

Real or not, it just seems like such a silly thing to waste energy on. I mean, dude is thinking way more about Weezer than he would be if he just ignored them.

I really don't care and don't have the scrilla to spare to pitch in, but would I shed a tear if they broke up now? Nah.

i'll take Weezer's big goofy blown-out fun-as-fuck Ocasek singles like "Memories" over half-assed, bet-hedging, caculatedly insular pitchfork micropop like "The Drums" any day of the fucking week, i aint bullshittin

dro™ (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:04 (fifteen years ago)

how is a song that literally pines to go back to "when audioslave was still ra-e-age" not bet-hedging and calculatedly insular? It is possible Rivers was using his whole ass, though.

da croupier, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:08 (fifteen years ago)

because it's lyrically insular but musically extroverted

dro™ (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:10 (fifteen years ago)

They should pay them 10 million dollars to write good songs and fire the bass player and bring back Matt Sharp.

I'd say they're mega easy to avoid. I dont think i've heard a song since Beverly Hills which stopped me wanting to seek out anything more ever again

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Sunday, 10 October 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

it seems like the real point of this is just to hurt rivers' feelings, cause he makes better music when he's sad. if this doesn't work, hardcore weezer fans should just follow him around and make shitty stuff happen to him on a regular basis.

iatee, Sunday, 10 October 2010 23:46 (fifteen years ago)

and then give me a $10 million consultant's fee

iatee, Sunday, 10 October 2010 23:47 (fifteen years ago)

There are much worse bands out there, although basically, I don't care a flying fuck about Weezer either way. Don't love'em, don't hate'em. Just ignore'em.
