Photograph here.

kkvgz, Thursday, 7 October 2010 15:22 (fifteen years ago)

voted perfect situation but this was surprisingly tough. could easily have gone for pork and beans or any of the green/maladroit singles.

swvl, Thursday, 7 October 2010 15:24 (fifteen years ago)

I guess Island in the Sun, but I'm not real big on any of these. (This Is Such a Pity -sounds- really good, production-wise, but the song's not really there.)

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 7 October 2010 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

I am very comfortable saying that there's not a song on here that stands up to anything on the blue or Pinkerton tracklist. That said, Island in the Sun I guess.

St3ve Go1db3rg, Thursday, 7 October 2010 16:28 (fifteen years ago)

if they do "Trainwrecks" as a single, it's an easy win for me

BIG BOOS aka the screamdriver (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 7 October 2010 16:30 (fifteen years ago)

Oh Lord these songs...

Its kind of amazing how many Weezer threads ilxor shows up on to remind us how much he hates Weezer.

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 7 October 2010 16:43 (fifteen years ago)

Well, yes, but I actually voted here.

I'm gonna mention ilxor in everyone of my posts until I get dn'd (ilxor), Thursday, 7 October 2010 16:44 (fifteen years ago)

it's amazing how ilxor enters every thread ever with a completely skippable, tl;dr post where he breaks down every piece of data

BIG BOOS aka the screamdriver (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 7 October 2010 16:45 (fifteen years ago)

Well, yes, but I actually voted here.

I'd rather listen to ilxor
I'd rather listen to Weezer 2.0

I'll take the green album and maladroit over everything since, but I'm voting for Pork And Beans

da croupier, Thursday, 7 October 2010 17:28 (fifteen years ago)

how I'd rank them:
Perfect Situation > Troublemaker > I Want You To > Keep Fishin' > Memories > Island In The Sun > Dope Nose > Photograph > Pork And Beans > This Is Such A Pity > Hash Pipe > Beverly Hills > The Greatest Man > I'm Your Daddy > We Are All On Drugs

cajunsunday, Thursday, 7 October 2010 18:06 (fifteen years ago)

"Photograph" is almost good but the ending just kinda ends..

billstevejim, Friday, 8 October 2010 03:34 (fifteen years ago)

"Hash Pipe" vs "Island In The Sun"

I always liked "Dope Nose" but I wouldn't vote for that against the first 2 Green alb singles.

Too bad there weren't more Maladroit singles.

billstevejim, Friday, 8 October 2010 03:37 (fifteen years ago)

(If You're Wondering If I Want You to) I Want You to

and yeah, ilxor needs some time off

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Friday, 8 October 2010 03:41 (fifteen years ago)

Not enough "The Greatest Man" love. I listened to it the other day and thought, "Oh, as of at least 2008, Rivers could still write a dang melody."

But seriously this is "Keep Fishin'"

Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Friday, 8 October 2010 03:56 (fifteen years ago)

I think Keep Fishin' is a seriously great, well-written pop song. and muppets! Does anyone else remember that saves the day video that came out around the same time? i guess those guys were more like fraggles, or something.
Pork and Beans I could do without, and I think you have to be drooling-on-yourself-level drunk to like Beverly Hills.

your mother verna (abbygarnett), Friday, 8 October 2010 16:45 (fifteen years ago)

"around the same time" was actually a few months before, i think.

kkvgz, Friday, 8 October 2010 16:52 (fifteen years ago)

So many of Weezer's current fans claim to be in it because the band doesn't take itself too seriously--because they're "fun" and have a sense of humor. "The Greatest Man" is the only post-Green album song I've heard where this is unambiguous and Cuomo is actually funny. The police siren, the a cappella Beach Boys breakdown, the lyrics...the individual parts somehow work for me. And the closing chorus is stellar. Its' a great song.

"Keep Fishin'" has always been a favorite as well, and I think it stands up to most of the Green album.

We Are All On Drugs and Troublemaker are the only stinky songs listed here. Memories isn't half as bad as it initially seemed

Morcheeba, simply happening. (PaulTMA), Friday, 8 October 2010 22:32 (fifteen years ago)

Had to go with Keep Fishin'.......love Island in the Sun too, but radio kind of killed it for me.

Tim. E "LazRus" Lucas (Prose b4 Hoes...and Big Hoos), Sunday, 10 October 2010 02:25 (fifteen years ago)

"Island in the Sun" is the best and "Beverly Hills" is the worst

The Reverend, Sunday, 10 October 2010 02:36 (fifteen years ago)

"Island In The Sun" is just kind of pleasant and bland, it bums me out that the Green Album/Maladroit stuff seems to be getting the most goodwill when they've got more recent stuff that's so much more hooky and memorable imo

some dude, Sunday, 10 October 2010 02:37 (fifteen years ago)

tbh I don't really know most of the more recent stuff

markers' make (The Reverend), Sunday, 10 October 2010 02:38 (fifteen years ago)

"I Want You To" is good. Don't remember a damn thing about "Pork & Beans" other than it had a stupid video. Don't think I've anything else post-Make Believe.

markers' make (The Reverend), Sunday, 10 October 2010 02:41 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i think that's generally the thing, a lot of people that were willing to pay attention to them when they first came back, but from Make Believe onward only heard maybe a couple of the bigger hits

some dude, Sunday, 10 October 2010 02:41 (fifteen years ago)

Fwiw, I voted for "Island in the Sun" on say it ain't so.......the Weezer singles POLL too

markers' make (The Reverend), Sunday, 10 October 2010 03:19 (fifteen years ago)

(If You're Wondering If I Want You to) I Want You to

This song is so horrible. The chorus reminds me of some sub-sub-sub Sum 41 or Good Charlotte or some other random shitty early 2000s radio pop punk that is just produced to death and a completely lifeless thing.

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 10 October 2010 04:10 (fifteen years ago)

I haven't heard all these but I think "Hash Pipe" is a nearly perfect radio rock single from its first note to its last

drawl the whine (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Sunday, 10 October 2010 04:13 (fifteen years ago)

and yeah, ilxor needs some time off

I didn't look at this Weezer thread for 2 days, does that count? :(

i'm just saying let ilxor say something nice to me ffs (ilxor), Sunday, 10 October 2010 04:15 (fifteen years ago)

(If You're Wondering If I Want You to) I Want You to

this is a straight fire classic song and the best on this list sbiud

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 10 October 2010 05:44 (fifteen years ago)

i'm not totally offended by this since there are some Sum 41 and Good Charlotte songs i like but to me this is one of their liveliest, catchiest, most infectious songs. it was co-written by Butch Walker, who made probably my favorite album of 2010.

some dude, Sunday, 10 October 2010 13:17 (fifteen years ago)

so I've heard that song a few times before on the radio, and I honestly did think it was sum 41/good charlotte/etc.

iatee, Sunday, 10 October 2010 14:35 (fifteen years ago)

like I didn't learn that was weezer until this thread. but I like the song.

iatee, Sunday, 10 October 2010 14:36 (fifteen years ago)

really? that's bizarre. why? because there's a gang shout moment on the chorus? it otherwise sounds like snappy power pop to me.

some dude, Sunday, 10 October 2010 14:37 (fifteen years ago)

I think it's the way he sings? more nasal pop punk-y than usual?

iatee, Sunday, 10 October 2010 14:40 (fifteen years ago)

Has more of a Motown vibe than any obvious pop-punk I've ever heard

Morcheeba, simply happening. (PaulTMA), Sunday, 10 October 2010 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

Weezer is going to be the subject of the future's Nerf Herder's "Van Halen."

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 10 October 2010 18:54 (fifteen years ago)

it's the bridge that makes it for me, the cut to the acoustic & harmonies kills me

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 10 October 2010 20:21 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Tuesday, 12 October 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

it sounds more like all american rejects than sum 41 or good charlotte

which is why it's awesome

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 22:07 (fifteen years ago)

the other Weezer singles poll got 55 votes and 46 of them were for songs off Blue Album/Pinkerton, i'm interested to see what the turnout is like for this.

wtf @ hash pipe voters

the top 2 are correct

billstevejim, Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:14 (fifteen years ago)

wtf @ hash pipe voters

ten people digging their comeback hit makes more sense than 3 people preferring "we are all on drugs" to all the rest, imo

da croupier, Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:19 (fifteen years ago)

Pork and Beans got robbed

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 14 October 2010 02:27 (fifteen years ago)

Photograph is probably closest to Blue-era Weezer

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 14 October 2010 02:28 (fifteen years ago)

i always thought the general consensus was that "Hash Pipe" was utter shit and pretty much set the tone for all their old fans instinctively cringing at any new record? but yeah "We Are All On Drugs" getting any votes at all is bizarre.

some dude, Thursday, 14 October 2010 13:26 (fifteen years ago)

can i ask what people like about island in the sun? musical nyquil imo.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 14 October 2010 13:30 (fifteen years ago)

Island In The Sun is a diamond-hard pop song. It wasn't over-exposed in the UK like in the States.

Morcheeba, simply happening. (PaulTMA), Thursday, 14 October 2010 13:39 (fifteen years ago)

i always thought the general consensus was that "Hash Pipe" was utter shit and pretty much set the tone for all their old fans instinctively cringing at any new record?

nah the "fuck these guys" sentiment increased gradually from the green album to maladroit to make believe. Hash Pipe made #9 on the Pazz and Jop poll that year - and I'm definitely of the group that thinks those first two 00s albums were harmless if mindless compared to what follows.

da croupier, Thursday, 14 October 2010 21:12 (fifteen years ago)

wow totally forgot that it did that well on Pazz & Jop, weird.

some dude, Thursday, 14 October 2010 21:16 (fifteen years ago)

the album hit #21!

da croupier, Thursday, 14 October 2010 21:17 (fifteen years ago)

we are all on drugs is definitely one of the ten worst singles of the 2000s

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 14 October 2010 21:18 (fifteen years ago)

& i think "beverly hills" is just as bad

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 14 October 2010 21:18 (fifteen years ago)

lol "island in the sun" tied at #24 on the p&j singles chart with "jaded," "because i got high" and "digital love"

Best Song To Get 21 Votes In The 2001 Pazz'n'Jop Critics Poll

da croupier, Thursday, 14 October 2010 21:24 (fifteen years ago)

i guess "digital love" suffered from some vote splitting but jesus christ

well by that logic so did "island in the sun" ("hash" was at #9, "one more time" at #10 - tied with Ryan Adams' "New York, New York")

da croupier, Thursday, 14 October 2010 21:25 (fifteen years ago)

also...on the album poll

21. Weezer: Weezer (Geffen)
22. New Order: Get Ready (Reprise)
23. Pernice Brothers: The World Won't End (Ashmont)
24. Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott: Miss E . . . So Addictive (The Gold Mind, Inc./Elektra)
25. Daft Punk: Discovery (Virgin)

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 14 October 2010 21:28 (fifteen years ago)

If gorillaz had gotten five fewer points Weeze would have made the top 20!

da croupier, Thursday, 14 October 2010 21:29 (fifteen years ago)

Discovery's rep definitely grew over time, culminating in the world tour 6 years later.

ENBBQ (The Reverend), Friday, 15 October 2010 05:33 (fifteen years ago)

this thread has made me listen to lots of weezer 2.0 songs for the first time and I like a lot of them!

iatee, Saturday, 16 October 2010 01:15 (fifteen years ago)

or rather, some of them!

iatee, Saturday, 16 October 2010 01:15 (fifteen years ago)

I've hated Weezer for almost twenty years but liked "Hash Pipe" a lot, and voted for it now.
