i went into the record store in dinkytown where he did the first (2nd?) one. i had no idea what was going on, i just went in on my lunch break to shop, and there was this guy in the window rolling around in a cardboard box with one foot on a keyboard. i figured it was some student thing and ignored it. later on ppl were like omg did you go see the 24 hour song?!? i didn't even know i had!

haha yeah it's honestly amazing just because his mind really starts to unravel at the 24 hour mark, i sort of wonder if he can do 78....like just health wise

saw this guy last year in denver -- only a 45 minute performance tho. met him afterwards, seemed like a pretty chill guy compared to his onstage persona.

no just right as i was posting that norton was on, the musicians take "shifts" and he was on the clock...mallman is the only one that is there for the full 78 hours

That's usually what happens in these music marathons, but I was wondering if things were different here.

yeah mallman plays keyboards and sings so he can take a break from keyboards....i really can't see how it would even be physically possible to play a stringed instrument for that long, you're fingertips would hit bone!

This is really great. I fear for his health, too, but man, just checking in for an hour here and there online has been amazing. I've been too tired/busy to go see this, but I gotta see him cross the finish line! (With the inevitable punchline: "Encore!")

Mallman now talking to a girl while playing two notes on the keyboard.

dude's eating plenty. does he have a bucket on stage or get to hop off when necessary?

da croupier, Saturday, 9 October 2010 14:12 (fifteen years ago)

Ha, he takes bathroom breaks. Last time he did this, six years ago, he had a "gone pissin'" sign. The band keeps playing while he goes.

Checking in again online: Awesome again. Kind of wish this was the talk of something, anything, because it really should be.

I read a book in middle school called Lizard Music, about a kid who stays up late after the national anthem and test pattern play on TV (this is the '80s), and all of a sudden finds himself watching a bunch of lizards playing music on TV. That's what this reminds me of...

Went to see him early this afternoon and it was intense--I danced the whole time. Watching now and it's at about the same pitch. His parents were there at a reserved table up front. I'm amazed he's still relatively coherent.

Pete Scholtes, Monday, 11 October 2010 02:09 (fifteen years ago)

that was gr8

zvookster, Monday, 11 October 2010 03:03 (fifteen years ago)

i joined in as he was doing call and response with a p tight band, specifically a monster rock guitar riff. "chuck ain't u got more notes than thaaaaat?????" guitar: denenenenenenaah! x18 or so.

towards the end he was lying on his piano screaming, for some time, "i see nana! i see nana! nana!"

zvookster, Monday, 11 October 2010 03:12 (fifteen years ago)

then he rallied somewhat, stood on a chair and said "i went to heaven and met my nana [swings arms in time to band] and we walked thru heaven like this. and she said 'why would you do this to yourself? why would anyone do this to themselves?' and i said 'nana u don't understand! it's all but a dream!' and i came back that night! i came back for you!" & it was clear then that he was gonna make it.
