I hate reading reviews of music -- i HAVE to hear it, and radio is just not directed enough for me. i'm trying to get back into radio listening, but it's not the same. i miss AG so much.

What downloads do for me is keep my from buying the record. I have five songs from that Streets record, which I like pretty well. No way am I going to pay money for it now, even though I'd probably like the whole thing. I almost don't like to download music from something that really interests me, because it will probably stop there.

I first read the NME in 1970, Ive been an avid reader of pop and rock journalism ever since. When can I expect this sense to kick in?
As a pleasant way to pass the time reading rock / pop writings is its own reward. As a way to allocate scare resource (cash) into optimum music reading reviews is mostly a lottery.
All unheard purchases are playing the odds, buying things at random or because I thought the cover was cool has given my much better returns than rock journalism. Of course I've found some gems after reading a review. I would have found them anyway.
Not to be too close minded about it, and to put my money where my mouth is, lets try an experiment, somebody find a review website I can trust. I'll buy the album I like the review of and let you know what I think of it.
I don't think this experiment will work. It leaves out a key part of the equation, which is that you are the one who has to determine which reviewers you can trust. This is to some extent a matter of taste. A reviewer will gain your trust over a period of time. Someone else can point you to their favorite reviewer, but the results will be a lot dicier than if you find one through your own reading & listening experience.
