supposedly that Merle Haggard story is supposed to be the end-all-be-all of music writing in 2010 and I'm kind of psyched to sit down with it

If it's the same story RS ran last summer, yes, it's very good.

It used to creep me out when Nitsuh's name was automatically replaced. It must be what the internet is like in China.

i'd understand why shitty posters would want their name google-bleeped,
rly cool cause one time I saw p@rts & lab0r and to be honest it wasn't that great a show and you were mean to me at the merch table. ok well not mean but it was pretty obvious after I'd been talking to you for fifteen minutes that you were brushing me off. then you guys broke up but do you have an extra track for a tape-only comp I'm putting out? I can't pay anything and won't send you a copy and will smear your name if you so much as suggest I've been anything but awesome to you, but you should send me a track. you guys were awesome! anyway what I was wanting to tell you was I read your twitter thing, and I RTd a lot of your posts but you never even RTd mine, what's that about? when I was following you from like early on? can't even believe that shit man. what comes around goes around. hey I'm dj'ing a party next weekend though and you should come. my number's 917555WICH, I tried to get 917WTCHOUS but they said no numbers with WTC. double tee eff more like, right? Ha. You gotta go to the bathroom? Cool, me too. Seriously though, were these the only P&L releases: [lists, accurately, entire P&L discography; removes penis from pants, urinates into urinal while continuing monologue) Yeah I have all those. Well I "have" 'em, hah, I think the only one I actually own is the R1se, R1se, R1se split on N@rnack. I used to know the guy who runs N@nack, what a cool dude! He gave me that R1se, R1se, R1se split. At this party we were both at. Cool guy, right? Well I mean you'd know, you worked with him. Man! I saw you at Brownie's. Do you play cross-stick? I tried for a while but I think I'd probably be better on keyboards. Buncha good keyboard-based bands around here lately. you wanna spin at my party? we have ten dj's already, mostly friends, but it's going to be awesome.

if I remember correctly, the name-replacement thing went like this
- ethan & folks goofing around googlebombing it- ilx moves up search rankings for years- my mom googles me- I make the mistake of saying "could someone un-index this particular thread?"- obviously this acts as a cue for people to resume google-bombing- a moderator (TOMBOT?) attempts to clean up the google-bombing, not for my sake but just because it's wasting space- this only encourages it- finally that moderator is just like "fine, I'll turn on the pre-existing LJ name-replace function, how you like THAT"
anyway I am really excited to read all of this! the thing of mine in there was sort of dorky, so I almost hope some of the more "general" readership just takes a pass on it

I didn't know that was the deal with the nabisco name substitution. Weird. I sometimes regret using my own name as my display name. It was a point of principle initially but I'm just sick of seeing it up there on the screen now.

Tate's a great writer and the Jackson piece is impressive but I'm not crazy about his 'it's not like it was in the past' meme re great African-American music in that article, even though he explains it.

i do like the 2 paragraphs in the second half where he talks about the music on the album (although they do anything but make me want to listen to it). but i'm gonna go ahead and be a snob about an error-riddled blog post more about sexual politics than anything else making it into a "best music writing" anthology.
― some dude, Monday, 8 November 2010 14:16 (fifteen years ago)
Why were the errors preserved? For verisimilitude? Or was it just bleary-eyed editorial fucking up?
