find a better version of "i'm so high"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEb8mdw90FY
a lot of new bay rap tracks, particularly those by jacka or matt blaque, has this sort of dreamy, melodic, mid-tempo feel to it. i think "i'm so high" is very influenced by the post-"i feel love" disco sound. check out imagination's "just an illusion" or even "fantasy" by ew&f, there's a clear connection there imo
― chilli, Sunday, 17 October 2010 03:13 (fifteen years ago)

one my favorite *trends set* is "shes so fly" by grind mode
― r|t|c, Monday, 18 October 2010 11:35 (fifteen years ago)
thought abt calling it 'chillwave'
― j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Monday, 18 October 2010 12:25 (fifteen years ago)
"vibe music" was what they called it iirc, and all five songs in the genre have been accounted for i think. cept for maybe 'drifter' i adored them all.

errrm i guess this works but i dunno if it's really as definitive as all that - this stuff was obviously a lot more playful in using the club as vehicle for unusual out-of-drunken-body extremes of anomie & bonhomie compared to the 'just an illusion's considered and deliberate subversion. in terms of sound it should go without saying that, via a hazed nostalgia, atl bass is the main reference here; this from 97 is the obv father of this stuff

― r|t|c, Monday, 18 October 2010 13:28 (fifteen years ago)
sure i was going off on a bit of a tangent on that one. do you think songs like "kiss me through the phone" or gorilla zoe's "echo" draw inspiration from this type of music? obviously they took more of a club-banger type approach rather than taking the dreamlike roger troutman aesthetic, but just a thought
― chilli, Tuesday, 19 October 2010 08:38 (fifteen years ago)
"echo" yes, "kiss me through the phone" no
