For those too young to remember, what I'm suggesting is to name at least two songs by different artists that sound *remarkably* alike. Additionally, is there any proof that one copied the other, or do you consider the similarity purely an eerie coincidence? Judgment calls on whether other people's picks are truly twin are, of course, optional. :)

George Michael 'Faster Love' and Soul Decision 'Ooh It's Kinda Crazy'.
Comments - George was SO ripped off.
Fastball 'Fire Escape' and Grapes of Wrath 'Stay'
- You can literally fade one into the other and barely notice a difference. Could be coincidental, but the Grapes of Wrath song *was* recorded years earlier.
- Sebadoh 'Weed Against Speed' and The Superfriendz 'World's Most Embarrassing Moment'.
- Spookily similar (instrumentally at least), recorded at nearly the same time too, but the mystery was partially solved when I discovered that the same producer was common to both. I had them both on MP3 random play amongst some eight hundred odd other songs and it took me almost a month before I clued in to the fact that I was even hearing two different songs.

I noticed a similarity between Passing Through by the Foxgloves and parts of Minor Character by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, but I'd have to check again to make sure. I only have Easy Pieces on vinyl at my parents' house.
Finally, I remember Peter Hook once said in an interview that In Between Days by the Cure sounds like some New Order song. Does anyone know which one it might be? Thanks.

Oasis "Cast No Shadow" and Moby Grape's "He" (from 1968's "Wow" album)
This HAS to be intentional, but I've never heard or read about this as one of Noel's infamous rip-offs.
Another one : try singing the Chorus of "Satellite of Love" along with Mellow's "Another Mellow Winter" (from the splendid "Another Mellow Summer" album) This must be a coincidence, as it's a common chord sequence.

I am surprised to hear 'Passing Through' compared to 'Minor Character'. Unlike me, the author of 'Passing Through' can't stand 'Minor Character'.
I see no resemblance whatsoever between 'Wichita Lineman' and 'LLPJ'.

almost certainly intentional. I think the similarities were pointed out by Brent D. on the Bitchpork board.

2. And to be frank, I don't think that 'Photo Jenny' does quote the end of 'Wichita Lineman'. The thing is, pop music is, to some extent, a simple form - at least as far as I can tell. (Others may, I suppose, disagree about this.) So it's not surprising when one thing sounds a bit like something else - because the same elements are being rotated and reused so much. But - with respect, Tom - I think the resemblance has to be much, much stronger than that between these two songs (one of which is fast, the other slow) to count for this thread.

Anyway, y'all know that Ray Parker Jr and Huey Lewis settled a lawsuit in private over the fact that Ray stole the song from Huey. Terms of the deal were that Huey was to never speak about it but he spilled the beans in a 'Behind the Music' interview so now Ray is countersuing. Is this new info to anyone or am I completely out of the loop?

Huey Lewis: Search and Destroy.
Of course it's your right to believe that this is mere coincidence, Pinefox, but I think it's a clear musical quotation. Otherwise, I'll agree that the songs bear little resemblance.

Iggy Pop's "Lonely Highway" & Johnny Cash's "Sea of Heartbreak"
Van Halen I has clever little nods to Hendrix, Zeppelin and Ozzy Randy Rhodes era all through it.
I know there's more. I notice this all the time.

And speaking of Hopkinsian enlightenment of course there's the "Slow Grafitti"/"Tennessee Waltz" resemblance.
