Their last American hit. Too AOR for me: even their album sleeves were gross.

Dave Stewart's hair shook in gratitude.

It's between Missionary Man and The Miracle of Love for me, and I don't love either one. Voting for "Miracle" -- nice use of the "Be My Baby" drum intro.

Probably my least favourite Eurythmics album, at least pre-"We Too Are One". But "When Tomorrow Comes" is still an awesome song, even though I think it has too many guitars and too few synths.

I always liked the verses of "thorn in my side" but the "to run away from you" section is annoying. it's a pity though because at this point her command of her voice is A+

guess I'll just sing dream on again (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 24 October 2010 14:17 (fifteen years ago)

"Missionary Man" was the keeper.

"Let's Go" is fun, but the second side's a wash.

The drum sound on this thing is gross.

*actually the sax is pretty wack too, but the hypercompressed acoustic guitar and the perky-ass "yeah!" that open it are gold

leaning toward "the last time" weirdly enough - i'm not usually about lyrics so much but annie just sells the hell out of the second verse...

there's a garden full of roses
there's a necklace made of pearls
you have come to take the roses
to give to other girls
well
i am just a pretty thing
you wanted for a day
there is nothing left between us
there is nothing left to say
hey... hey...

I've just YouTubed the singles, hearing some of them for the first time since the 80s probably, though I still remember them all very accurately. My parents were pretty into The Eurythmics back then. Wow, Annie Lennox sure is hypnotic in those videos.

When Tomorrow Comes is not as arrestingly odd as MM and Thorn, but it seems to me to be an impeccably written pop song, so think I'll vote for it.

'the miracle of love' is a pretty nice song with a positive message.

"Mullets were offensive in 1986."

Limahl and Billy Idol both had mullets in 1983, so I doubt they were considered particularly offensive in 1986.

I bought this cassette when I was about 10. Always used to find "I Remember You" quite touching. ("Ooooooooh, we were so young. We didn't realise just what we'd done" or whatever.) Looking at the tracklist now that whole "lost innocence" schtick in combination with the purty string arrangement still seems more appealing than most of the other more famed and bombastic tracks. Not sure I could even endure side 1 just now.
