POLL II POLL: "Club Classics Vol. One" Soul II Soul

Known here as Keep On Movin', but the original title is better and truer. (I'm throwing in the single version of "Back to Life" because it's closely affiliated with the album even if it's not on it...plus it makes the poll more interesting.)

This album changed my life.

don't know if it changed my life, but this and the first brand new heavies album definitely broadened my tastes and record collection.

On the album proper, probably "Fairplay". Hard to go past the single version of "Back To Life" though.

Why in God's name was the a cappella version on the album????? I can't imagine how many fans they pissed off by doing that.

The single version of "Back to Life" is better than anything on the actual album except maybe "Keep On Movin'" and "Fairplay" and, in certain moods, "Feeling Free" and "Dance"

'keep on movin' for me. remember being massively excited when it was a new entry in the uk charts at around number 13 iirc.

These children will not kill my Gerrard for me oh, (or something), Monday, 25 October 2010 15:07 (fifteen years ago)

Keep on Movin was the bomb and as teh first (US) single of the album also has a special place in my heart
picking between that and Back to LIfe is difficult

loved those trax so much went out to buy Caron Wheeler's solo album when it came out and that was a disappointment

'keep on movin' for me also, 'back to life' is wonderful but i can think of other tracks from the time that get a similar effect for me (hello 'hippychick') whereas 'keep on movin' seems so sui generis - anything i think of similar is either too laid back to hit that tension (maxi priest - 'close to you') or too strong to finesse it (massive attack - 'unfinished sympathy'); lisa stansfield, who i loved at this time also ('you can't deny it' if that poll happens) is close but still not hitting that spot. it's almost like if you took the lisa lisa out of lumidee's 'never gonna leave you' and replaced it with anita baker you might be in the neighborhood. or not, i'm not sure what the formula was, i just know noone ever replicated it in a manner that matches 'keep on movin', though call me crazy i always preferred vol 2 1990: a new decade (which kinda flopped in the us at least) to vol 1 overall.
