and there probably won't be any responses either . . . but i have to say that "triomphe des mouches" off ceux du dehors sounds A LOT like goblin

I had the debut, but didn't love it much. I just got the reissue of Heresie in the mail last week, though, and have been thinking about listening to it.

ceux du dehors came out second, three years before heresie, an even more nightmarish album, like bartok on acid. if that sounds appealing, have at it

Got a copy of the debut for three dollars about a month ago but haven't been in the mood, I guess.

I didn't know they reissued Heresie. That's a great album.

actually ceux du dehors came out after heresie, and was their 3rd LP (before Uzed)

I have always wanted to like UZ, but have never quite come around to them. I like the darkness, but they've seemed a bit stiff to me. Daniel Denis was in Magma for a very brief period in the early 70s, and I think my taste is way too biased towards them to really appreciate UZ

Every musician in France seems to have been in Magma at one point or another

my bad. thanks for the clear up, dominique. i think they benefit from itunes/ipod shuffling. taking the songs out of the contexts of the albums makes them much more striking. their albums can be oppressive listens if you're not in the right mood

I have 1313, always liked it in a certain ominous chamber rock kind of way. There was an interesting review years ago in Forced Exposure suggesting that the band got short shrift by coming along at a time when (to paraphrase) a lot of serious collectors were faced with either going punk exclusively or falling way behind, so they got tarred with the same negative brush as other late period proggers.

yeah, i've described them to people as "mannered"
