He's the Grandfather of glitch in a way, damaging and manipulating cds for performance since the 80s. This album uses cds of his own music but I understand that earlier performances would utilise prepared cds of more general music so you'd hear disembodied vocals and instruments emerging every now and then.
There's a few good videos of some of his more recent performances up on youtube, something very cool about a reserved, academic looking old Japanese dude calmly creating these huge swathes of digital static.
