Most fans had stopped asking about it by now, I think, but here is the surprise announcement:

one bonus track instead of a full second disc feels a bit pointless and stingy, but at least Get Down Make Love will kiiiinda work as a new closer.

but 'ringfinger' was a perfect closing track ;_;
do dig the new cover though, especially the vinyl version

Remaster leaked, apparently. I'm waiting for my delivery to listen to it but I did find this: 15 second comparison (can't tell, is it exactly the same but louder or is it more than that?)

okay srsly, is there a point to listening to a leak of a remastered album that came out 21 years ago? would think the presumed low quality of the leak thru cheap computer speakers would negate the "remastered" effect

Listened to a lossless copy of this yesterday night.
Some very dramatic differences to my ears. Did a few A/B comparisons with the original 1989 issue and aside of the obvious rise in volume level there was some staggering differences. In fact at points I was left wondering if any of it had actually been re-recorded.
The general impression I got was that Trent has boosted a lot of the previously subtle background sounds and drum noises which by effect seems to take the edge of some of the cheesy synth/synth bass parts.
Some of the stereo panning is unreal though. I never expected 'Something I can never have' to have such oomph.

story here, graphic design fans: - designer did an A+ job w/ the reconstruction of the cover art (which he did completely from scratch, btw)

Usually when things "leak" it's because someone has a prerelease copy, so it's as good as it's going to get. If you're listening to all music you download on your computer speakers, you're doing it wrong, imo.

Really? I always thought that was one of the strongest songs on the album.

ordered @ amazon. How refreshing, no seductive deluxe editions this time.
― StanM, Monday, 22 November 2010 16:16 (fifteen years ago)
No, that'll be in a month or so's time.

amazon has this on CD for $7.99 (as do a bunch of physical outlets) -- just ordered my copy

Great line:
The greatest trick Trent Reznor ever pulled was convincing the world he was the devil.

Though I gotta say:
1992's "Wish" was certainly no Depeche Mode song
I dunno, thematically it's just a really angry Depeche Mode lyric. ("World full of nothing" vs "World full of you")

Picked this up today finally... awesome to hear this LOUD finally, opposed to the original murk.

Picked up the remaster and am enjoying it. I dismissed the album back when a roommate first got it in '89. I was more into Godflesh, Fugazi and Bad Brains then. Reznor's emotional melodrama felt too whiney to me, even though 19 should be the perfect age for that kind of extreme navelgazing, ha ha. So ironically I appreciate it more 20+ yrs later.
― Fastnbulbous, Monday, 27 December 2010 23:07 (fifteen years ago)
agree the remaster's great; i was 4 years old in '89 so picked this up more like 1998 or so myself. anyway, sounds great, new artwork's cool, and it's nice to see a reissue that doesn't go overboard w/ bonus tracks, focusing instead on the origjnal album.
