RotG still gets dismissed as hippie world-music trash, but that's very wrong...I hope it gets some votes.

This really should have been expanded to take in the Peel sessions and the "Y" album too.

Mark G, Friday, 29 October 2010 08:34 (fifteen years ago)

That would've skewed the poll. The Peel Sessions >>>>>>> pretty much every record ever.

I'm voting "Return..."

true.

Return *is* a good album, but a bit sprawling and unfocused IMO, compared to the concise little punk/reggae/dub nuggets of Cut.

Reynolds think that Odyshape is vastly superior...I think 'm gonna have to check that out...

Superior to Return? Maybe, I haven't heard Odyshape in a while. Superior to Cut? No way, man...

superior to Return...Raincoats 2nd vs. Slits 2nd...

I really like the looser feel of Return, the strange shapes the songs take when given some room to grow...

So the "Here to be Heard: The Story of the Slits" movie doc isn't that good? I haven't seen it and was curious whether I should see it (it's coming to a theatre near me in May)

I heard it was quite good from a punk fan acquaintance who saw it.
Viv Albertine's music memoir is great and I think the personal one is supposedly pretty intense.

Love them both, but "Cut" just a bit more. And Ari created so much more amazing music after the Slits.

And I just heard the bonus LP that came with Viv's last album, it's just as good!

Palmolive was one of five women making up the #TimesUp themed keynote panel at Pop Conference tonight

Nice.

Saw the one negative review of the "Here to be Heard: The Story of the Slits" movie doc, haven't read others and not sure I can make it to Maryland tonight for the one off showing of the movie (with Q and a with the director). Just read it's on Hulu. So maybe I will watch it there some time. Also have to finish reading the Albertine memoir

nine months pass...

Finally saw the Here to Be Heard doc and finished reading that first Albertine book. Didn't feel like Albertine was interviewed enough in the movie. The focus was on bass player Tessa Pollitt. It was a bit uneven but is still worth seeing.
