These are all best on your mp3 player imo.

Harrison Buttwhistle (NickB), Wednesday, 3 November 2010 13:09 (fourteen years ago)

You should totally check out Ceebrolistics!

I was actually thinking some of those bands are made up.

Death Cab for Kuti (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 3 November 2010 13:57 (fourteen years ago)

I voted Metropolis as it's better than Archandroid.

A brownish area with points (chap), Wednesday, 3 November 2010 14:02 (fourteen years ago)

Probably the Minnie Riperton one although I have only heard her two mid 70s albums.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 3 November 2010 14:02 (fourteen years ago)

Things I have heard on this list:
DJ Sprinkles
Jahcoozi
Sparks (I love Sparks but this is not one of their best IMO)
and the title track of Ceebrolistics - 0. (I think, anyway - moody electronic noises, don't understand any of the lyrics except the word "nollapiste", which is how the track I'm thinking of was listed on a mix someone made me)

Out of those, based on that one track, I'd probably vote for Ceebrolistics! Tuomas, what other Finnish hip hop should I check out if I like that track? Or should we take it to the Finnish hip hop thread I vaguely remember reading years ago?

I think you'd actually enjoy the Murmurecordings album on my list. Murmurecordings is a larger collective that includes all the three members of Ceebrolistics as well as other Finnish undie rappers, and their sound is pretty to Ceebrolistics stuff (dubby electronic beats with melancholic raps). Plus half of the tracks on "Escapemodule" are in English, so you'd understand the lyrics too. If you want to, I can share it with you (it's long out of print), just drop me an email at tuomas dot alho at helsinki dot fi.

Archandroid vs Mary Poppins

lol tea partiers and their fat fingers (HI DERE), Wednesday, 3 November 2010 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

"their sound is pretty similar to"

Tuomas, Wednesday, 3 November 2010 15:19 (fourteen years ago)

Ha, I missed the Mary Poppins! That's pleasingly incongruous.

Thanks for the recommendation, Tuomas. I may well be in touch to take you up on that offer.

I voted Minnie Riperton, but if you had that Vocaroo recording of you reciting the chorus to "A Spoonful of Sugar," I would've voted that.

17th Century Catholic Spain (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 3 November 2010 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

Haha, thankfully I'm not that self-centred.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 3 November 2010 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

Those two Minnie albums are seriously underrated...I think "Young, Willing and Able" might be my favorite song of hers. Only weak spot is the "Light My Fire" cover, but at least it's playful and silly.

17th Century Catholic Spain (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 3 November 2010 20:20 (fourteen years ago)

I've only heard the Alice Coltrane and the Mary Poppins. And as much as I love old Disney soundtracks, Translinear Light takes it.

coltrane
