Bruce Springsteen's 1980s B-Sides: The Poll

B-sides of the officially released singles from the 80s, not on the albums they came from. Not going include the 12"s from Born in the USA because that seems like a whole other poll.

For me it's "Shut Out the Light", which I'd call one of his 5 best songs of the 80s, but there are a lot of good ones here. The live "Incident" is pretty great.

Santa Claus Is Coming to Town (live)

I listen to this about 200 times every Christmas and I'm still not tired of it yet.

Yeah, "Santa Claus" is kind of a ringer b/c it was recorded in 1975, and had been on the radio a lot in the 70s. Must have been on a radio-only promo.

it's crazy to think that born in the usa had all those hits - dancing in the dark, bitusa, cover me, i'm on fire, glory days, i'm goin down, my hometown (all these went top ten btw) - PLUS 3 b-sides from this thing (pink cadillac, santa claus is coming to town, stand on it) got crazy airplay.

Good poll.

"Shut Out the Light" is utterly devastating, and it's not even three minutes long. If we started a poll about short songs whose impact is devastating, this would lead the pack.

"Janey Don't You Lose Heart", easily. Amazing song.

Be True

"Shut Out the Lights" is pretty incredible. I hope Springsteen gets around to a deluxe "Nebraska" with all the original demos and unreleased tracks, then a deluxe "BitUSA" with all the "Nebraska"-styled demos included as well.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I'd also like a deluxe BITUSA, but I don't need the "Nebraska" style demos, just everything else. :)

shut out the lights is probably the real answer, but "stand on it" is a whole lot of fun.

My #2 would be "Be True"

"Janey Don't You Lose Heart" by Bruce Springsteen (close enough for Jane, I'll bet.)

Does he prefer the B-side, "Janey, Don't You Lose Heart?" I think I do.

Weird to me that this song has only four mentions on the borad. Perhaps there are other, misspelled mentions my search failed to find. Or unless this is not quite the real title.
