Kwame unjustly ridiculed imho

I mean he's totally goofy but I don't see anything wrong with that

Road to the Riches is a wildly uneven album but the high points are really high

I think m@tt's pointed out that '89 was kinda a surprisingly weak year given all the amazing stuff that came out in '88 - it's like the hip hop world took a deep breath before stormin into the 90s

the Whiney G. Weingarten Memorial 77 Clique (Shakey Mo Collier), Saturday, 6 November 2010 00:05 (fifteen years ago)

Ice T is the worst imo. His stuff sounded dated at the time and now it's aged worse than BDP.

but I do know that in 1989 it was questioned whether you'd ever met a girl that you wanted to date, but a year to make love she wanted you to wait

i love you but i have chosen snarkness (Steve Shasta), Saturday, 6 November 2010 01:07 (fifteen years ago)

in re bdp though '89 was Ghetto Music and tho it's generally accepted that BDP has aged badly I will still groove to "The Style You Haven't Done Yet" and for sure "Jack of Spades" -- that was the year I saw them, still the most incredible live demonstration of sheer MC skills I've ever seen

xpost the original g.o. was '89. I think it was touched up in '90. the song dates back even earlier, to Willie Dee's Controversy

honkin' on joey kramer (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 6 November 2010 01:07 (fifteen years ago)

not actually a 'gangsta rap' thread dudes -- its in the spirit of 'rolling snap thread' 'rolling fruity stupid crazy swag thread' 'rolling autogoon thread' etc. ... NWA broke in late '88
