I really want to post about changui music (fyi, S&D) but I thought that was too small a topic for a thread. I have been loving the changui tracks on this:http://www.timbuktunes.com/covers/cover-723724670020.jpg
and am interested in more.

I am not into changui, but if you like it, you probably should be checking out Elio Reve Jr's current work, and the Reve family in general.

Also, are you aware that Jane Bunnett did an album working with changui musicians? Again, not my thing, but she's an impressive musician, regardless.

Although maybe you'd rather have the pure traditional stuff at this point. But again, see the Revé family, just not necessarily the more recent timba/salsa/changui blends of Elio Revé, Jr.

yeah, definitely more into the straight changui at this point -- just really like that stripped down sound where there isn't much bass other than in the drums.

Oh, okay. This probably isn't relevant then either.
x-post
Also, this is one to look into. It got very good reviews (not necessarily talking about real reviews, but a few of those too) from those in the know:

I think there is a mini-changui revival going on. It seems to have been cracking a broader Cuban/Cubanophile audience over the past few years, but I'm not completely sure.

(I mean, that first line was after the x-post. Anyway. . .)

I tried to get someone else to post on this thread, but she had trouble with the change password link once she registered, so here is a link she recommends, but you need to check out the discography option:

Hurting 2, sometimes I have been posting about Cuban music (but not changui) on the annual Afro-Latin music thread
Afro-Latin Music Thread 2010: La Resurrección (salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, cumbia, etc.)
