Sez Wiki: "The song names are inspired from scenery associated with Snake Pass." Huh??

Should've been doing two EPs per week to match up with the LP-per-week rate, so I'm running this poll with Envane at the same time to catch up.

Poll Results

OptionVotes
1. "Second Bad Vilbel" 9:45 6
2. "Second Scepe" 7:44 5
3. "Second Scout" 7:21 1
4. "Second Peng" 10:53 1

"Second Bad Vilbel"

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 7 November 2010 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

This might be the last Autechre release where I like every track.

"Second Scout" for me. Squelch!

"Second Bad Vilbel" for when the beat comes back in at half speed

Gotta be Vilbel.

Up the voltage. (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 8 November 2010 02:42 (fourteen years ago)

I remember this being a pleasant find in a 2nd hand CD/record fair, back when I was still buying CDs and only a nascent ae completist.

Scout < Peng < ?? - Bad Vilbel's already got a lot of love so might have to be Scepe.

Bit of trivia for you:

Bad Vilbel is a town in Germany, twinned with Glossop near Sheffield. Hence Second Bad Vilbel.

This wiki entry might shed a bit more light as to the origins of the names of the other tracks.

Must remember to try and fit a bit of Vilbel into a stomping techno set at some point. This isn't my favourite Autechre era, and while I guess I understand why a lot of people like these dry, crunchy, beaty textures, I prefer AUtechre when they're making pretty melodies out of harsh dischords, so it's the next couple of releases that interest me most.

That said, Vilbel has some really great moments on it, so that.

And Kinder Scout is the highest point of the Peak District, about ten miles south of Glossop. No idea about Scepe or Peng though.

Poor old Second Scout with only me to love it! Which I didn't particularly either, until I heard it in a mix.

But it is the most melodic track and has some nice acidy bass noises, and I know that's boring to a lot of Autechre fans but it's what I like most in their music. Which is why I will quite shortly be getting off the Autechre poll bus, though I'm looking forward to revisiting the ones I didn't care for at the time along with the polls.

I'm listening to the whole ep before I vote. Second Scout is almost house-y with it's jazz-inflected chords.

Bad Vilbel is a beast unto itself, but I've gotta vote for Scepe, those vocal snippets just do it for me unlike most anything else.

Bad Vilbel is always the first thing I associate with this EP, but I'm going to listen to the whole thing again before voting.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

i dunno... vilbel is classic of course, and scepe is pretty much perfect, but i'm gonna go with peng for being huge, building and building, and having brutally simple drums and that awesome slinky noise at the center of it

"scepe". gorgeous and I love the coda.

but I could see myself voting for anything on this one.

Wow, silent "Scepe" crowd nearly rallies it to the win. I am pleased, in any case.
