Got my pre-order copy in the post today. How a record like this can dwell in obscurity for decades in this world of diggers and curators is beyond me.
It's had a lot of build up over the last few months, not least on the LITA blog which has detailed the label's quest to uncover as much as they could about this mysterious singer-songwriter. But I have to say: it lives up to the hype.

Apparently it has a good write-up in Mojo this month.

just downloaded this from emusic. sixties-production and vibe aren't normally my thing, but i like what i hear of this (and i admit the backstory was intriguing).

Ian I knew you would love this

Has gotten under my skin. Reminds me of the more lavish work of Tim Hardin and Gene Clark.

"Rosey" totally going through my head lately. I think I like the mp3 rip of the original more than the reissue vinyl. But my speakers suck so that could be affecting it.

**even**

Yeah I think Light In The Attic kind of skirted around that. And it's not generally as well liked as UFO. But I'd be interested to hear what you think, having not heard it myself.
― master shammer (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 9 February 2015 00:36 (ten years ago)
it's been on CD... in japan, natch. i haven't heard it, but people who have seem to think it's subpar.
― I dunno. (amateurist), Monday, 9 February 2015 09:18 (ten years ago)
I've never heard the 2nd and last album (s/t) though have also heard it's not as well regarded. There was a Korean CD reissue a few years ago that I think is legit, 24-bit remastered according to some accounts but can't find much info on it.

That's the one. As far as being "subpar" I suppose so but UFO is such a special record that it would be super hard to live up to. It does seem that the folks at Playboy records went all out for it though. The packaging is quite nice; die-cut cover, thick paper insert and engineered by someone named Hank Cicalo, who on the back liner notes is stated as being "Carole Kings' engineer.
Musically it is not as forlorn and out there as UFO and it does seem much more slick but still, it has some excellent playing on it and 1/2 the songs are quite good. I'll take it for a dollar.
― kwhitehead, Monday, 9 February 2015 15:40 (ten years ago)
Cool. I mean I'd probably pay $5 for it just to have it...
― master shammer (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 04:12 (ten years ago)
Hank Cicalo was also the Monkees engineer--they gave him a songwriter credit on (iirc) "No Time", the royalties of which bought him a house.
