Best / worst songs? Great moments? Dodgy moments? What was the Boss getting at? Was he doing something he couldn't do now?

He was still trying to be Bob Dylan. He has more sense now.

One or two good songs ("For You", "Blinded By The Light") but generally spoilt by wordiness and poor production. That Manfred Mann's dodgy contemporary band managed a better version BBTL says a lot.

You gotta be kidding about the Manfred Mann cover! Dodgy, indeed, just an awful massacre of the poor song. It wasn't exactly fraught with meaning to begin with, but by the time MM was finished with it there was absolutely none left whatsoever. Nice early rock electronics, but no-go.

I think Greetings is one of Springsteen's better albums - fairly representative of exactly what he got famous for later (wordiness, herky-jerky arrangements, nearly-to-totally overwrought "street romanticism", all delivered straight-faced and without apology).

"Does this bus stop on 82nd Street" is a great song, captures a certain breezy mood. A few embarassing moments ("Lost in The Flood", the lyrics to 'The Angel" tho boy what a great melody) but I like this album.
