Got you all in check? Or smellin' rank like some old stale urine?

My name is Kenny, Saturday, 17 August 2002 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, I did this one on the old ILM....

Classic, obviously. It's the ultimate in just straight-up, no pretentions, jump around like a pillock hip-hop. Especially look up "Scenario" (w/A Tribe Called Quest), "Gimme Some Mo'", "Ante Up" (w/MOP).... actually, search it all. Apart from the last two albums with have been a bit eh.

Busta Rhymes was the soundtrack to all my teen psychiatry group meetings as well, even if only two of us liked him...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 17 August 2002 10:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Classic, if just for this line alone:
“Back to my dungeon shack where the party is at / Where I can tickle your nipples and your feminine fat"
What an old smoothie.

DavidM (DavidM), Saturday, 17 August 2002 10:49 (twenty-three years ago)

classic...but his best shit is always on other people's joints- see the remix of "simon says" by pharoahe monche.

mike (ro)bott, Saturday, 17 August 2002 22:22 (twenty-three years ago)

it disturbs me that I am able to recognize DOM'S posts now

Josh (Josh), Saturday, 17 August 2002 23:12 (twenty-three years ago)

It means he is ONE OF US.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 August 2002 00:20 (twenty-three years ago)

busta ain't on any version of "ante up" that i know of...

mike (ro)bott, Sunday, 18 August 2002 00:22 (twenty-three years ago)

The rereleased single version of it, the one that was actually a hit. The "Busta Rhymes now, MOP now" bit was kind of a giveaway.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 18 August 2002 07:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I would be flattered Josh, but I guess that ain't a good thing.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 18 August 2002 07:30 (twenty-three years ago)

probably just means you're the most frequent british 'straight-up' hip-hop poster now.

Josh (Josh), Monday, 19 August 2002 03:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Both. A great voice and personality without great songs. I'm with (ro)bott.

Pete Scholtes, Wednesday, 21 August 2002 02:26 (twenty-three years ago)

after all classic. unstable carreer, lots of classic songs

Jay K (Jay K), Thursday, 28 November 2002 02:01 (twenty-three years ago)

His solo on "Scenario" alone is enough to put him in the pantheon. His recorded material pales in comparison to his work as a freestylist.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 28 November 2002 02:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Noooooooooooooo!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 26 November 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

=O

Say it isn't so!

R. "Ungooglable" Greene, Sunday, 27 November 2005 02:39 (twenty years ago)

It's the end of an haira. Um, era.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Sunday, 27 November 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

that's weird, didn't he cut off (some of) his hair in the "What It Is" video a few years ago?

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 27 November 2005 03:49 (twenty years ago)

yo, busta rhymes is the was the illest shi* back in da day, but now he ain't jack. y'all betta check out ma boy bee-zow from north jersey. his rhymes are da bomb. peace

hunglowchariot, Sunday, 27 November 2005 04:22 (twenty years ago)

Busta's albums pretty much suck for the most part but he was, arguably, the best singles artist in rap between '96 and 2002 and agreed on his cameo spots (someone really should mention "flava in ya ear" remix).

ELLI$, Sunday, 27 November 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

i like the new single, even though the beat is a but underproduced, like new york shit.

titchyschneiderMk2, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

"Don't Touch Me" (which is awesome, calling it "underproduced" is totally nitpicking) or the stank Linkin Park one?

The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

no, the throw some water on em one. not heard the linkin park one (why the fuck is he working with them in 2008?)

titchyschneiderMk2, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

washed up rapper in misguided crossover attempt shocker

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 20 May 2008 17:48 (eighteen years ago)

Busta middle name is pretty much misguided crossover attempt.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 17:51 (eighteen years ago)

his parents were cruel.

titchyschneiderMk2, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

Chuck D named him Busta Rhymes. Flav provided the middle name.

Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

"We Made It" is so terrible that I think they're actually worse off for having Cool & Dre produce it than if Linkin Park had done all the music themselves.

Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 18:01 (eighteen years ago)

Reviving this because "Don't Touch Me" is fucking massive.

brimstead, Friday, 30 October 2020 21:17 (five years ago)

why in the hell no mention of put your hands or dangerous or everything remains raw

brimstead, Friday, 30 October 2020 21:18 (five years ago)

lol i just spent 10 minutes trying to remember the name of put your hands where my eyes could see so i could re-watch the video which is like etched deeply into my consciousness

Give me a Chad Smith-type feel (map), Friday, 30 October 2020 21:34 (five years ago)

The new album sounds like a+ old dude rap so far

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 30 October 2020 21:35 (five years ago)

excited to dig into this but I am probably gonna skip the Farrakhan feature tbh

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Friday, 30 October 2020 21:44 (five years ago)

This is fun, still feels like underrated as a 2020 comeback record:

change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 December 2020 17:23 (five years ago)

i liked it overall, overlong obviously like every rap album in the streaming era (now even longer i think because they always go back and do a deluxe edition a few weeks later to goose the numbers)

but man hearing him and kendrick tear is up was amazing, lots of good shit, some expected weird stuff, the song where rapsody plays his ex wife and is basically like i'm sorry i made being a father so hard for you by being a total bitch is really jarring

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 22 December 2020 19:31 (five years ago)

damn busta's sw0le

ffolkes (map), Tuesday, 22 December 2020 19:36 (five years ago)

Ouch I didn't listen to that one.

The Bell Biv Devoe one is unbelievably funky, the Mariah one is kind of a fun throwback, love the Kendrick one. I want an instrumental of the kalimba beat on 'Blowing the Speakers'.

change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 December 2020 19:49 (five years ago)

thank you guys for reminding me of the existence of this album!!

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 22 December 2020 21:03 (five years ago)
