I saw the p4k thing where it said Albarn recently started a new Gorillaz record that they want out by the end of the year.. I figure that's usually a good sign that it will sound rushed and not especially great.. Although there have also been some prolific songwriters or producers who have put out their best stuff while in the midst of a quickly progressed multi-album stretch.

Doesn't it depend on the aesthetic? For something like The White Stripes where the entire appeal is it's raw rushed untempered energy and honesty, the art could only loose something each day beyond the 2 weeks they typically take to record an album. For an intricate production like the Gorillaz, I don't really get the idea of rushing it.

The all-timer, of course, in this category, is Warsaw Pakt's Needle Time. Recorded and in stores within 24 hours.

Insane, in our current record-selling climate, that it sold 5000 copies....

Allmusic's bio of Captain Beefheart continues to propagate the myth that all 28 songs of Troutmask album were written "in a nine-hour frenzy". I wrote to them several years ago to point out that this was complete nonsense, but to no avail.
Perhaps not 100% on-topic...

The-Dream's 'My Love' was well known for being produced in an hour when it came out. There used to be a video on YouTube of him laying down the chords and vocals for the song.

"Instant Karma." Written and recorded in a single day, in stores ten days later, a top five hit in three countries.

This isn't necessarily a "destroy" but I still consider Human After All a disappointment compared to daft punks first 2 records ..
― billstevejim, Saturday, 13 November 2010 18:52 (fifteen years ago)
Human After All makes a lot more sense to me now than it did in 2005.

CSNY's Ohio was famously written in an hour, recorded either that night or the next and rushed out into stores within a week or so.
White Stripes and Black Keys record all their albums quickly. Black Keys said their latest took a full two weeks: "It was our Tusk."

Zen Arcade was recorded in 40 hours, mixed in another 40, says the wiki. I think a lot of prime SST albums were done under similar circumstances.
― bendy, Sunday, 14 November 2010 02:29 (fifteen years ago)
Yea, SST and people like Watt own this, I remember on the sleeve of a fIREHOSE record it had a quote sayin it took something like 60 whole hours to record and mix 'what a bogart!'

The Minutemen's 'The Punch Line' was recorded in a single graveyard-shift session and I believe mixed just as quickly (and on second-hand tape, too).

I recall reading that Astral Weeks was all done in a day or so. Van played the songs to some jazz session guys and they knocked something off quickly.
