The Elvis track at the end is apparently a "flashback bonus track" remix, which I believe is something new for the series, at least in the U.S....and there's also a DFA band on here for some reason?

deej otm? (some dude), Saturday, 13 November 2010 15:47 (fifteen years ago)

"Teenage Dream," "The Only Exception," "Animal" and "King Of Anything" are all some of my favorite singles of the year. Will probably vote for one of the latter 2 that I can't see getting much love.

deej otm? (some dude), Saturday, 13 November 2010 15:48 (fifteen years ago)

It's between Taio and Nelly for me. Yes, I DO have sucker written on my forehead.

memories vs teenage dream

prolego, Saturday, 13 November 2010 18:57 (fifteen years ago)

Dynamite, hands down, lot of love for that tine.

I PUT MY HANDS UP IN THE AIR SOMETIMES!

You don't know that tune till you've heard it on a Funktion One soundsystem.

Darren Huckerby (Dwight Yorke), Saturday, 13 November 2010 19:15 (fifteen years ago)

i really came around to "teenage dream" eventually. a lot. it reminds me of gwen's "cool" and that is very good.

my fav is "suspicious minds" but i am not going to vote for it.

teledyldonix, Saturday, 13 November 2010 19:18 (fifteen years ago)

jeez, I am totally out of the loop.

^^ this. I recognize none of these songs.

"Prog", "Norwegian Prog" or maybe simply just "Racist" (crüt), Saturday, 13 November 2010 20:12 (fifteen years ago)

^^^yup.

hey look at me i'm a drunken asshole, how 'bout that huh? (Ioannis), Saturday, 13 November 2010 20:22 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think most of these songs are especially huge. Thinking back to the original few u.s. now! comps, the majority of their inclusions seem far more ubiquitous compared to those on the last 10 or 15 of these.

billstevejim, Saturday, 13 November 2010 20:39 (fifteen years ago)

I'm completely out of the loop too. The only song I've heard on this is the Elvis. I may have inadvertently heard a snippet of one or another out in public but I wouldn't know.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 13 November 2010 20:44 (fifteen years ago)

ignoring elvis

1. The Only Exception
2. Dynamite
3. Teenage Dream
4. Animal
5. Bang Pop

Taylor McSwift (Tape Store), Saturday, 13 November 2010 21:13 (fifteen years ago)

oh god the only song i like here is "suspicious minds" :(

going to listen to the nelly in the hope that it's adequate enough to vote for

smh @ the approval for "dynamite"

This is the first Katy Perry single that doesn't annoy the hell out of me. I'm not counting Elvis. I guess I'd indifferently endorse any of these:

1. "Teenage Dream" Katy Perry 3:47
2. "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love" Usher featuring Pitbull 3:39
5. "Dynamite" Taio Cruz 3:36
6. "Just a Dream" Nelly 3:55
11. "Animal" Neon Trees 3:30
18. "Bang Pop" Free Energy 3:37

Moka, Saturday, 13 November 2010 22:08 (fifteen years ago)

i only know like 3 of these songs o_0

I listen to pop and R&B stations and watch MTV Hits on a daily basis and am very familiar with 15 of the first 17 tracks, and I'd consider at least half of those annoyingly ubiquitous.

what the hell, man, you had my back on liking the Neon Trees joint on another thread

deej otm? (some dude), Saturday, 13 November 2010 23:44 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not sure these have less hits on them than past editions so much as the pop landscape has become very fragmented of late. You have a bunch of songs that are very popular within their niches, but aren't getting played on top 40 radio at all and aren't getting included in Now comps, whereas many of the songs they do pick for these may pass you by completely if you aren't actively listening to top 40. There are just less crossover hits now than maybe any time since the early 80s.

dark side of the goon (The Reverend), Saturday, 13 November 2010 23:46 (fifteen years ago)

I've only heard 8 of the 19 new songs.

"bang pop" is very bad imo

haute couture wolf gang frill them all (samosa gibreel), Sunday, 14 November 2010 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

i saw Free Energy play a little show with a couple local bands about a year ago, and I thought they were just some random cheesy hippie band, was totally surprised and confused a few months later when i found out they were on a hip label and had some buzz.

deej otm? (some dude), Sunday, 14 November 2010 00:48 (fifteen years ago)

A pile of crap and an out of place Elvis remix!
I only ever bought Now! CDs during 2005 when the radio atmosphere was actually awesome. Even then it lacked a lot of tracks that were popular at the time, Don't Forget About Us over We Belong Together on Now 21? COME ON!

That's not a "laugh track", it's an audience and you're in it. (MintIce), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 15:08 (fifteen years ago)

1. "Teenage Dream" Katy Perry 3:47
2. "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love" Usher featuring Pitbull 3:39
4. "If I Had You" Adam Lambert 3:44
5. "Dynamite" Taio Cruz 3:36
6. "Just a Dream" Nelly 3:55
9. "Memories" David Guetta featuring Kid Cudi 3:28
10. "Misery" Maroon 5 3:26

these are all in regular rotation on our Top 40 station; of these, I think Katy Perry is the clear standout

Going with Free Energy just barely over Paramore here. This is one of the worst in the series so far.
