Large body of work, three songwriters, occasional fingers of oh-I-lurve-the-geetars-but-my-what-silly-lyrics pointed at them. So . . . what SY words/chants/sonnets work for you?

(inspired by consecutive posts on an old-sk00l thread
sundar - "I mean, it has some of the most abjectly inexcusable lyrics ever on it."
jess - ""i can't get laid/cause everyone is dead" = best rock lyric ever in my mind.")

(& also testing permalinks, etc etc etc)

At the moment the opening to Xpressway To Yr Skull ("we're gonna kill / the California girls") is mentally about halfway between the snarly shrieking commandment I imagined it to be & the jangly drawl of reality (=> they outsmarted me yet again kurses).

The lyrix to Wish Fulfillment look fairly stupid on paper/in yr head but when Lee sings it it's magical & wetly palpable. & Kim's rhymes on Swimsuit Issue! The Encino/Meano rhyme is some bizarro NY cousin to Eliot's ices/crisis, & the grin/rush/whatever I get whenever I hear it is shared only with the ". . . acoustic guitar . . . at the time it was terrible" bit of the Smiths' Shakespeare's Sister (but v.different means of generating effect).

"swimsuit issue" aside most of kim gordon's lyrics make taking a penknife to your eardrums seem like a good idea.

That list of years Lee Ranaldo delivers in..."Eric's Trip," is it? Evocative in a very curious, unfocused sense.

"I'll meet you tonight at the bottom of the well
Just feel around in the dark until you get the idea"

most of what they wrote doesn't matter, juist another sound in a complex storm. still, "i left home for experience/ carved "suck for honesty" into my chest" gets me every time i hear it.

Yeah, those dates are pretty cool, aren't they? My first impression was that they were the band's birthdays, but that's kind of silly, and I've never checked.

"We watched her fall over and lay down/shouting the poetic truths of high school journal keepers."

That's almost a Morrissey moment, isn't it?

but yeah, not really a lyric band, ahem...

I still like "The Sprawl" because of the wide open fields. It's like the happy David Lynch movie.
