MetroPOLLis: The Kraftwerk Songs Poll — Autobahn-Electric Café

Message Bookmarked

Hoping this hasn't been done before. Omitting Kraftwerk 1&2 and Ralf & Florian, but adding "Abzug," "Tour de France," and "House Phone." English titles only; if you prefer a German version vote for the English equivalent and bitch about it somewhere in the thread. Likewise, if you prefer "Dentaku," vote for "Pocket Calculator." If you wanted "Kohoutek-Kometenmolodie," you're SOL.

Oh you have done it now!

Mark G, Friday, 19 November 2010 12:22 (fifteen years ago)

Impossible.

calumerio, Friday, 19 November 2010 12:24 (fifteen years ago)

Ohm Sweet Ohm - starts tacky, ends beautifully.

The Great Cool Lulu who sleeps in Riley... (dog latin), Friday, 19 November 2010 12:25 (fifteen years ago)

Has to be "Endless Endless" really.

Tommy Duckworth (Noodle Vague), Friday, 19 November 2010 12:53 (fifteen years ago)

'Europe Endless', but "Kometenmelodie 2" is just beautiful.

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Friday, 19 November 2010 13:07 (fifteen years ago)

Cannot. Do. This.

Autobahn vs Neon Lights is my first thought, but if I let myself look at the Computer World tracklist that shortlist would probably triple

actually it could be any of these except Geiger Counter, which keeps coming up on random for me and making me go "...???" once I notice that I've listened to nothing but clicking for the past minute

Metal on Metal

gospodin simmel, Friday, 19 November 2010 13:48 (fifteen years ago)

I want to say 'Showroom Dummies' but then I hear 'The Model' and 'Computer Love' and 'Neon Lights' and 'Metal on Metal' and fuckin' 'Kometenmelodie 2'...ugh, this is extremely difficult.

bmus, Friday, 19 November 2010 18:39 (fifteen years ago)

If forced I'd have to say "Europe Endless," which I was randomly humming last night a bit. The opening couple of minutes alone defines precise, perfect monumentalism.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 19 November 2010 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

Even the greatest stars
can't narrow down their options in the Kraftwerk poll

Trip Maker, Friday, 19 November 2010 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

'pocket calculator,' always and forever.

the 'Friends' experiment (Pillbox), Friday, 19 November 2010 19:06 (fifteen years ago)

Hard to choose. I'll pick 'Computer Love' because it explore some stunning gorgeous melodies in a fairly short amount of time. You could build a symphony out of it.

"The Robots" for me but yeah this would be difficult if I didn't have such a sentimental love for that particular song.

TEE

oh that intro

xanaxdu (electricsound), Friday, 19 November 2010 21:59 (fifteen years ago)

Went for the transcendent "Neon Lights," but lately have really been loving "Radio Land" and "Airwaves." Well, all of Radio-Activity, really, but those two in particular.

Kent Burt, Saturday, 20 November 2010 09:56 (fifteen years ago)

"The Robots". Although these are probably a bit too many tracks within one poll.

Neon Lights or Europe Endless. Can't decide.

Although these are probably a bit too many tracks within one poll.

When the G-Man calls it then you know you've fucked up.

"Computer Love."

Computer Love, Radioactivity and Metal On Metal are the only Kraftwerk songs I really love. The rest is so ignorable.

BOOM

I would have voted "Kohoutek-Kometenmolodie", side a (seriously!), but in lieu of that, "Europe Endless".

Euler, Saturday, 20 November 2010 15:36 (fifteen years ago)

I guess the very first tracks that pop to mind are "Neon Lights", "Numbers>Computer World 2" (<can't consider these separately, the transition between the two is too perfect and necessary), and "Showroom Dummies"

But where can I find Kohoutek?

Mark G, Saturday, 20 November 2010 19:08 (fifteen years ago)

Voted for Computer Love but could have easily switched for any song on Trans-Europe Express or Man Machine. I think the only album of them I don't really like is Autobahn.

gospodin simmel's statement almost makes me ashamed of loving Computer Love and lining myself with the ignorant populace who don't understand the grandiosoty that is Kraftwerk but think their Coldplay cover is ok.

Moka, Saturday, 20 November 2010 19:22 (fifteen years ago)

*grandiosity.

Moka, Saturday, 20 November 2010 19:22 (fifteen years ago)

'Neon Lights', first thought and I can't think of much better.

Craigo Boingo, Saturday, 20 November 2010 19:25 (fifteen years ago)

Neon Lights is my ringtone and I'm still not sick of it.

sofatruck, Saturday, 20 November 2010 21:13 (fifteen years ago)

Very tough to choose. Picking "Radioland" cos i dont think itll get many votes and it deserves some props! Nearly everything here deserves to win.

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Saturday, 20 November 2010 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

I know "The Model" is not exactly the most fashionable K song but it makes me happy every time I hear it so that one.

I feel the same way about "Pocket Calculator."

Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Sunday, 28 November 2010 00:23 (fifteen years ago)

The first Kraftwerk song I ever heard was "The Hall of Mirrors," albeit via Siouxsie & The Banshees. When I heard that the original was even better, it took up so much room in my heart that there's scarcely room for anything else.
