― _Rudipherous_, Saturday, 20 November 2010 03:26 (fifteen years ago)
you have seen the video right? i can't find it on youtube but it's the only video i carry around with me on my phone. most people haven't seen it and it never fails to impress. classic, with layers of classic stacked on top.

The line "We rocked his butt with a 12" cut called 'Disco Kryptonite'" pops in to my head too often.
― naus, Saturday, 20 November 2010 05:31 (fifteen years ago)
Unfuckwithably classic in all respects.
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 20 November 2010 05:38 (fifteen years ago)

true fact i first heard 'jam on it' on a BAND TRIP to washington dc in spring 1984 (we were slow on the uptake in the suburbs). some kid i think in the brass section (french horn probably) played it over and over until half the bus loved it and half wanted to kill him. anyway i was 13 and it changed my life, more or less.― gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Thursday, September 28, 2006 4:00 AM (4 years ago) Bookmark

(and actually i guess we weren't that slow on the uptake, it looks like the song actually came out in '84? "jam on revenge" was '83.)

I first heard this in spring '84 -- a period when the boys in fourth grade could afford it brought the first boom boxes to their parties. "Jam On It" (and to a lesser extent Shannon's "Give Me Tonight") was the soundtrack to April-June '84.

*, IF they could afford it
One of the greatest records ever made, probably.
My copy of the 12-inch, bought the year it came out when I was in the Army in Mainz, is on Sunnyview Records, "manufactured and distributed by Bellaphon Germany." The picture on the cover shows Newcleus as a four-piece band, with one guy on guitar, two on keyboards, and one on drum-pad. Inset inside that picture there's a smaller photo, of three pre-teen boys breakdancing, two of them spinning on their heads. (The back cover has an ad for other picture-sleeve 12-inch singles by Joan Jett, Survivor, Wizz Kid, Key West, C.O.D., Booker Newberry III, Hazell Dean, Felony, Starpoint, Big Ric, Marvin Scott, Otis Liggett, Vison, I.M.S., Shannon, Colors, Xena, and Crypton, only a few of which I've ever heard of otherwise.)
Have never heard Newcleus's album; has anybody? If so, how good is it? (Great, I'm guessing.)

yeah Chuck, whole album is pretty sweet (especially "Computer Age (Push the Button)", which Mojo used to play all the time.) Sweet comic book-style cover art too.
I don't think two weeks go by without some dude in my office saying "wikki wikki wikki" or some other random rap from this track ("I socialize with X-ray eyes" or some shit.) and I work for a corporate-owned software company -- this may or may not be the norm across other office cubicles across america, but for whatever reason it's got huge endurance in our shop. Which actually sounds like it would be annoying, as I typed that out, but i swear it is not. it's lovely to be continually reminded of this all-time classic track

Quite.
Even near back of beyond upstate New York wasn't immune, thank god. That song was EVERYWHERE on the radio.
― Ned Raggett, Saturday, 20 November 2010 21:31 (fifteen years ago)
this is A but Jam On Revenge is A+

> That song was EVERYWHERE on the radio.
Not so much in Pittsburgh -- only heard it on WAMO.
― john. a resident of chicago., Saturday, 20 November 2010 22:42 (fifteen years ago)
this blew my mind too real early --- first head it on the radio in pittsburgh as a matter of fact, guess that must've been WAMO ----

Suburban NJ, this song was huge when I was in junior high. Of course, we got NYC radio stations.

I found this on a tape in the parking lot of the high school at the end of my neighborhood ca. 1984. That person's loss was my gain, as I probably listened to it no less than a thousand times.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 21 November 2010 01:16 (fifteen years ago)
didn't hear it until several years after the fact. spokane WA was not up to speed wr2 urban dance music in 1984, not even in clubs.
