chaki (chaki), Sunday, 18 August 2002 22:45 (twenty-three years ago)

There's a Basement Jaxx live or remix version of "All the Critics Love U in New York" floating around soulseek. There's also a great Fatboy live mix of When Doves Cry. In fact I just put both of them my (slow) shared directory.

Also, where and when is this night?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 18 August 2002 23:05 (twenty-three years ago)

:(

Jess Harvell (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 August 2002 23:11 (twenty-three years ago)

"La La La Hee Hee Hee," "Scarlet Pussy," "Shockadelica," "Hot Thing,"... everything from the Black Album, and most of "Sign O The Times."

maria, Monday, 19 August 2002 00:43 (twenty-three years ago)

"Housequake," the 12-inch mix of "U Got the Look" for sure. "P Control," "319" from Gold. "Sleep Around" and "The Human Body" from Emancipation.

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 19 August 2002 02:28 (twenty-three years ago)

You should choose liberally from the new album: it's slamming. And maybe some Beck, and Mansfield's New Pollution? Some B sides? And maybe I would die for you by Prince and/or Sinead O'Connor? Other songs that Prince wrote for others? Maybe some freaky porno music, like German schoolgirls compilation? And Elivs, don't forget Elvis.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 19 August 2002 02:54 (twenty-three years ago)

don't be afraid of 'chaos and disorder'. there are some killer tracks on there...

you need to play "i wish you heaven", "dmsr", "if i was your girlfreind", "alphabet street", and "love bizarre".

maybe i'm too drunk but i think dump is the name of the yo la tengo (james mcnew ?) related band that's all prince covers.

mike (ro)bott, Monday, 19 August 2002 03:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah but it was only one tapes worth. Never heard it.

Andrew Thames, Monday, 19 August 2002 05:12 (twenty-three years ago)

play the Space Cowboy rework of 'I Would Die 4 U' - its on Norman Cook's label Southern Fried altho its not a Fatboy production...its got more of a Basement Jaxxy vibe tho more euphoric and poppy than their stuff

blueski, Monday, 19 August 2002 07:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Fuzzy Haskins' original of 'Cookie Jar'

dave q, Monday, 19 August 2002 09:20 (twenty-three years ago)

if u r going 4 an upbeat/dancey, funky poppy angle
- go 4 these :

* '17 days' the *fantastic* shoulda-been-on-the-album
-but-was-pulled-at-the-last-minute b. side of when doves cry
that's better and poppier than almost anything else he's ever done

* 'pop life' ('around the world in a day album track)

* 'supercalifragifunkisexy' off 'the black album'

* 'play in the sunshine' ('sign o the times' album track)

* 'gett off' (original 12 " version, not crappy album version
or radio/7 2 single edit, but the TOTALLY diferent original
if u can find it).

* 'mountains', 'kiss', 'raspberry beret' - obviously.

* 'erotic city' (everyone in 'clubland' is playing this currently
so there's heaps of boots of it around, + remixes and such)

* 'i wanna be your lover' - parental advisory warning !
explicit lyrics !

* 'sister' - ditto

* 'waterfalls' - wendy + lisa (ace ace ace 80's single)

* 'a love bizarre ' - sheila e.

* 'jerk out' - the time (phenomenmally under-apreciated
single from 1990 when the time got back together around the
graffiti bridge era, but this is miles better than any of the
trax they did for that soundtrack. seriously i've never
played this record to anyone who hasn't loved it. fast,
funny, wicked riffs, great chorus)

* 'the glamorous life' - shelia e. the best version lasts 9 minutes !! crazy latin drums and saxes and another non-hit
around the world.

* 'forever in my life (live) - if, somehow, u could get the live
version off the 'sign o the times' movie that would go down
a treat as a last track. waaaaay better than the album version
which amounts to a demo really.

*'can't stop' - opening tune of of mucho maligned 'graffiti bridge'
soundtrack, pop-funk to the max with the last of his
truly great scream solos at the end to wit :
"yar yaaaa yaaaa yaaa yaaaaaar- wahoo" etc.

can i just echo 'dance electric' by andre too, although if u can
find prince's version (off , say, 'the royal jewels' bootleg
triple live set) that's better. also off same is 'all day, all night'
which is *stupidly* fast and has prince talking about being
'your purple fox' at the start.

playing 'free' off 1999 would be cool for a tears-in-the-eyes
everybody-hug-each-other finale.

there's not a tune in the above list that's not *ace* pop.
all good stuff. god i could talk about this stuff all day
but there's work to do. hope this is of help, even though u
probably know most of this stuff anyway.

piscesboy, Monday, 19 August 2002 11:24 (twenty-three years ago)

The 12-inch version of "Mountains" that goes on to that amazing horn-section business. "Feel U Up," from some Batman-era single. The disco remix of "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold." Big Daddy's cover of "Purple Rain" (done a la Buddy Holly). Peaches' cover of "Sexy Dancer," possibly.

Douglas, Monday, 19 August 2002 11:53 (twenty-three years ago)

AAARGH. What was that first big Jesse Johnson Revue single called? "Be Your Man"? Barring that, you should play "Fake" by Alexander O'Neil.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 19 August 2002 12:39 (twenty-three years ago)

The Screams of Passion by the Family -- almost forgot about that one!

Andy K (Andy K), Monday, 19 August 2002 13:01 (twenty-three years ago)

And then when you're done putting all this together, Chaki, you offer to make it available for us by us sending you blank CDs or something. :-) I'll try and see if I can make that night, but I might still be recuperating or something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 August 2002 15:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Sheila E's "The Belle of St. Mark" is my favorite outside Prince production EVAH
"Manic Monday" too
I'll second Douglas on Peaches; you should also try and track down the Gear Daddies' country-rock cover of "Little Red Corvette," a shitkickin' good time

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 19 August 2002 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

"Lady Cab Driver" would be *the* song I'd want to hear in a club!

Simon, Monday, 19 August 2002 21:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Cyndi Lauper's version of 'When you were mine' off 'She's so unusual' is really cool but I guess it's not really dance music.

maryann, Tuesday, 20 August 2002 03:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Just promise me that you won't play ANYTHING off of his horrid "Rainbow Children" LP.

maria, Tuesday, 20 August 2002 05:35 (twenty-three years ago)

You could play the Eels' cover of "Wish I Was Your Girlfriend". Not really sure you can dance to that, though.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

The long mix of Housequake... Rebirth of the Flesh... that Basement Jaxx All the Critics mix is slamming... Arto Lindsay, Erotic City (not really for the dancefloor, but great)... Da Bang...

Ben Williams, Tuesday, 20 August 2002 14:50 (twenty-three years ago)

four weeks pass...
Is this thing still happening?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 19 September 2002 06:34 (twenty-three years ago)

And if it is, play Starfish And Coffee (I always do) and Feel U Up, the b-side of...uuuh, Partyman was it? Wikkid tune anyway.

Charlie (Charlie), Thursday, 19 September 2002 06:41 (twenty-three years ago)

delayed for now.

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 19 September 2002 08:37 (twenty-three years ago)
