Tasty bass at the end there (of the first YouTube, xpost)

I like how unafraid he is to be completely corny and call his tracks things like 'Kaleidoscopic Ecstacy'.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 17:42 (fourteen years ago)
I gave Unidentified Flying Oscillator several listens earlier this year — not bad, kinda Drexciyan.

I like that last one the best - kind of like if 90s Dr Dre were commissioned to write the score for Doctor Who.

He's really come on musically since UFO. The last three EPs have been fantastic. He's only about 20 years old too.
― groovypanda, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:20 (fourteen years ago)
Cool, I'll give them a listen.

love love love this tunehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnFJKYOgSgY

i like this guy IN THEORY as a cheesed-out version of drexciya ... BUT i have to note that he's a one-trick pony.
really, if you've heard "love quadrant" you've heard it all at this point
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:49 (fourteen years ago)
bop gun
― (ㅅ) (am0n), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:53 (fourteen years ago)
i've burned a CD that starts with "the love quadrant", runs through J2TCOTUS, and then through "temporary thrillz" ... but by the time i've got to temporary thrillz i'm always ready to turn it off.
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:53 (fourteen years ago)
"love quadrant" *is* really fantastic though, esp when the male voice comes in and everything gets beefed up. i also like how the flip "electropod collision" is a super-spacy dub of "love quadrant", that's a good trick.
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:54 (fourteen years ago)
dudes who compose such sensual muziks... do they get laid?
― Chester, Your Majesty (kelpolaris), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:55 (fourteen years ago)
probably, given that he looks like this.
it also really reminds me of jedi knights (the global communication side act) for some reason.
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:57 (fourteen years ago)
see, but this is funny to me. i mean, that's one extremely charitable way of putting it. you could say, i hate how gimmicky he is.
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 18:59 (fourteen years ago)
it's like electro for the overbite dance crowd
it's a very calculated cheesiness, as opposed to, say, ed dmx who strikes me as more, uh, all over the place.
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:03 (fourteen years ago)
you think barry manilow gets down to his own tunes?
― Chester, Your Majesty (kelpolaris), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:03 (fourteen years ago)
not funny
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:05 (fourteen years ago)
I love "Journey to the Core" in part because it reminds me of Kuba Sojka's Message from Earth, Raiders of the Lost ARP's Arrival, Transllusion, etc...
Don't really care for the other stuff.
― Andy K, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:05 (fourteen years ago)
xpost
but i lol'd
― Chester, Your Majesty (kelpolaris), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:06 (fourteen years ago)
kel are you on vicodin, or do you not have an excuse for being a moron this time?

thought the RA podcast was a meandering load of rubbish...but some of my Irish friends have been playing this stuff for a few years and I always thought it sounded nice. can sort of see what vahid means, like not from the pov of electro more just, it's a bit "let's have some harmless fun with squealy disco noises"
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:26 (fourteen years ago)
I didn't get through much of the podcast, it seemed to take ages to even vaguely get going.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:29 (fourteen years ago)
yeah real missed opportunity...
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 20:04 (fourteen years ago)
idk u can listen to it while doing the dishes and its alright
― plax (ico), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 20:13 (fourteen years ago)
never really got into love quadrant
― plax (ico), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 20:14 (fourteen years ago)
xp pretty much on the money, like he's aware of all the signifiers of techno but not really interested in considerate composition or making anything other than genre music.

I am not deeply invested in this guy as an artist, but this.
I don't place too many expectations on young people making techno and house these days. I don't love Kyle Hall's music most of the time, but I think he needs room to make mistakes and grow as an artist. I feel the same way about SDC and John Roberts. I think all three of them are talented people who need some time to mature as artists. It seemes more constructive to reserve judgment and let them keep working rather than tear them a new asshole if they make mistakes along the way.

(also, rereading this thread, it seems like I might be projecting ILX dance thread negativity on comments that might be genuinely innocent in other contexts...)

I agree really, it's bothered me a bit that people seem so keen to make the Nicolas Jaar the new anointed one on the basis of a handful of records.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:39 (fourteen years ago)
I'm generally okay with 'gimmicky' if the gimmick's good.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:42 (fourteen years ago)
― A brownish area with points (chap), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 17:40That's probably one of my favourite tracks of the year. The bit where the bass drops in for the final couple of minutes gets me every time.
― groovypanda, Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:54 (fourteen years ago)
heard love quadrant in a move d mix, has grown on me a bit more now
