Nothing like musical geek games, huh?

How long a chain of bands being referenced by name by other bands can you get? Off the top of my head, I can manage a piss poor four:

Leonard Bernsterin
referenced in "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" by REM
referenced by Pavement in that Pavement song about REM
referenced by Mo-Ho-Bish-O-Pi in the brilliant "Hear the Air"

Sonic Youth are referenced by Eric's Trip who use a few second's of "Eric's Trip" as leadoff to their demo, and take their name from the song. Eric's Trip's singer Rick White and his wife are referenced in Elevature by Flashing Lights which is nod to their band Elevator which also features Eric's Trips drummer. Matt Murphey, the singer of The Flashing Lights sang on a Snob Shop record which was the name of Laura Borealis' recording pseudonym. Under the name Laura Borealis she would tear into Chris Murphy (no relation to Matt) of Sloan on the album Funderful, amoung other things she bitches about his theft of some of the tuneage for Coax Me from her, also he would borrow the title Inhereit The Median Strip on Smeared from her back when they were couplish. Sloan, make so many Kiss references it hurts, but lets go with a Television refence of The Marquee and The Moon (technically bars in Halifax) and while Im sure if I stare at things for a bit I could find a Sonic Youth or Television reference, I gotta get back to work.

Stevie Wonder mentioned Bob Marley in 'Master Blaster'
Bob mentioned the Clash in 'Punky Reggae Party'
The Clash mentioned loads of Jamaican blokes in 'White Man in Hammersmith Palais'

surely someone can tidy up/add to that wee list and do better than that ?

NEVAH! Julio, they are the glue that holds the musical canadian boat together from the waters of Treble Charger or the slimy tenticals of ILP/IME/Tal Bachman. So they still somehow mystikaly qualify for SOCAN grants. You can keep your Journey, Foreigner or even Loverboy, I got my Sloan and thats the way I like it uh huh uh huh.
