Removing tracks from albums to add the single always makes me grumpy.

For whatever reason. Just *add* the damn thing, chances are they bought the single already!

e.g.

1. Skylarking - XTC, removed "Mermaid Smiles" and added "Dear God"

2. A Fierce Pancake - Stump, removed "Eager Bereaver" to add "Buffalo"

In the CD age, there will mostly be space for the single in addition to what is already on the album.

In the same year as Skylarking, no less a band than Cardiacs removed the splendid 'I'm Eating In Bed' from their debut wide-release record and stuck the kinda commercialised 'Is This The Life' on instead - it's easily the album's low-point

Wasn't this an 80s phenomenon? And hasn't this largely been rectified on more recent CD releases.

For me it's almost the opposite problem. I got used to having "Into The Groove" on the "Like a Virgin" album, but the most recent release of the album (an excellent sounding remaster also adding two great 12 inch versions as bonus tracks) has removed it as it wasn't originally on the album. At least they should have kept it as a bonus track.

3. Squirrel and G-man 24 hour party people plastic face carnt smile (white out) - Happy Mondays, removed "Desmond" to add "24 Hour Party People"

I remember this being part of the reason as to why the US edition of Thomas Dolby's Golden Age of Wireless is missing tracks that were present on the UK print. All of the tracks were restored on the remaster.

That's not a "laugh track", it's an audience and you're in it. (MintIce), Thursday, 2 December 2010 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

xpost yeah, but still.
