Just heard this for the first time last night... need to give it a couple of listens more.

This is a lot better than I remembered it being!

Gelk is one of my favourite Autechre melodies, so that.

The rest is pretty unmemorable though.

Gelk is a lovely, playful melody, but that's only half the story, the rest is controlled, subtle menace. Blifil has a brilliant beat but it doesn't go anywhere or do anything else much - the real deal here is the live version w/Microphone Fiend (sometimes aka Microphone Fiend remix on the slsks); when Rakim drops in it is a fucking game changer.

Gaekwad though...

WHAT?

The bells at the start are both sinister and melodic, backed with a Confield-esque 1000rpm confusion of beats. Then we get a muted voodoo marimba, some synth strings which try to add a touch of sanity but are instantly undermined by a frightening cacophony of laughter and insectoid chattering, before the whole thing swirls around and disappears down the drain. And that's only 10% of what's going on. Man, this is one of my all-time ae headfuck jams.

19 headaches is pretty pants tho.

interesting... I wasn't going to say anything because I felt this was pretty dull. I'll keep listening.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anshuman_Gaekwad

peel picked the track names as he was playing them. the above is the inspiration for Gaekwad - just a name he remembered and liked the sound of.
