The Glam Metal Detectives was a project created by Peter Richardson, leader of the famous Comic Strip ensemble that formed in the early 80's (which included Rik Mayall, Ade Edmonson, Nigel Planer and other stand up comics). GMD was a TV/pop crossover from 1995 - there was a BBC2 sketch show of the same name which featured the (completely made up) band as reoccurring characters, and an accompanying record called "Everybody Up!"
Here is a full listing of credits on that single.
The "band" consisted of Gary Beadle, Phil Cornwell, Mark Caven, Doon Mackichan, Sara Stockbridge and George Yiasoumi. Phil Cornwell would later work with Richardson on the successful BBC Stella Street fake-docusoap-sitcom, Doon Mackichan is more famous for her roles in The Day Today, Brass Eye and the various Alan Partridge shows.
The show, I believe, only ran for a single 6 episode run - BBC2 did not recomission it, and I recall the critics pretty much hated it. Thus the Glam Metal Detectives were consigned to obscurity.

Musically, the Glam Metal Detectives were the brainchild of Trevor Horn and Lol Creme (ex-10cc). Being a fan of both, must admit the music was rather underwhelming with lame covers and lamer original tunes. Horn and Creme would survive this detour.
