weird thread. my wife likes the beastie boys. at least she has all the records up to check your head, i think. she doesn't like 311.

I like them, and am a girl. I don't know why they'd appeal to me any differently than the way they appeal to a guy. I saw them live a few years ago and enjoyed myself. I guess I don't really know enough about the band to have an opinion on what 'version' I like - I have a couple of their albums and I like em, that's all. And I never liked 311 much.

I can't really say who loves the Beastie Boys today, but definitely around the time of Check Your Head and Ill Communication, it seemed as if love for the Beastie Boys was nearly universal among the girls and guys I knew.

? I know plenty of women who dig the Beasties (at least up through Ill Communication, after that I don't know anyone who seriously pays attention). I'm married to one of them, another is in my band, etc.

as a girl who listened the fuck out of the Beastie Boys as a teenager: there's tons of reasons why I like them, but none stand up to gender-based analysis (unless it takes a feminine sensibility to think that a certain sample sounds cool or w/e). I'd probably give similar reasons for liking lots of other bands with dudes in, don't see why these guys are a special case

What a weird question. Is a naming thing for the original poster perhaps? It says Beastie *Boys* therefore: no girls allowed.

Since the article was submitted, Marnie Stern announced her new album (self-titled) with a track titled “Female Guitarists Are The New Black” (would that make these guys the Beastie Boys? MAYBE):
