My best friend gave a poster of this album cover as a sorta joke/sorta serious going away present when I left for college. It hung in my dorm room at least through junior year and confused the hell out of ppl.

Way too few people are familiar with this excellent solo debut. If R&B today had been like Lionel Richie was in 1982-86, then I would have no problems with R&B today at all.
