Has anybody heard this comp. of 60s Turkish Garage rock called "Turkish Delights"? It's on some swedish label. I just played it on my radio show, and it's completely insane. Am I the only one?

I had it, and now, after cleaning up my CD/record collection for the past hour, I realize that it's gone! Maybe it fell under the seat in my car. Oh well. I remember loving about half of it (the shorter, poppier songs, I think) and feeling that the later songs were a bit too jammy/boogie-ish for my tastes. Unless I'm confusing it with another foreign sixties compilation.

I just bought an Asian sixties collection called Asian Takeaways. The packaging (not to mention the title) is a bit cheesy and obvious, but the songs are great! Pretty diverse--melodramatic pop, show tunes, rockabilly, fuzzed out psychedlia. From Hong Kong, Malaysia, Korea, Singapore.

Mogollar are ACE!! (They are on the Love, Peace, and Poetry Asian comp!)

yeah, you can't go wrong with the turks. there's also "hava narghile" on the dionysius/bacchus label with some insane erkin koray stuff. and you can't go wrong with his first two albums, either.

the same label just did "steam kodok," an LP comp of bands from singapore that's pretty nice... lately it's become a hobby of mine to collect garage/psych from odd places - "g.s. i love you", "love peace and poetry" and the "girls in the garage" specials (you haven't lived until you've heard rita chao cover "yummy yummy yummy."

@I dont fancy it one bit... there are some rather long audio clips from the album at aquarius records (http://aquariusrecords.org) and that is all I have heard of it..perhaps if I was Turkish......

I haven't heard the Turkish comp but I'll definitely pick it up if I see it. I love international garage and pop, it feels like a real secret history of teen solidarity on the sex n drugs front.

There's a Cambodian one that's supposed to be good. "Mexican Rock N Roll Rumble" is a pretty good comp, especially for Los Apsons' "Satisfaccion" and The Pets' psychotic fuzz-take of "Hello, I Love You. Whenever I'm in Montreal, I pick up some comps of Quebecois bands covering the hits of the day. Those "Ultra Chicks" comps are great for french "Yeh Yeh Girls", but I think they're out of print now so snap em up if you see em. And yeah, YNF is OTM, "GS I Love You" and "GS I Love You Too" are both great Japanese comps.

Both those Turkish comps are indeed fantastic -- there's a bit of track duplication but not too much, thankfully. Mogollar do rule, but lord knows there are gems throughout. More thoughts of mine here and here.
