THE 2010 ILM SUPER-MEGA YEAR-END ALBUMS 'N' TRACKS POLL™ is open for nominations thru January 2, 2011 @ midnight EST

Message Bookmarked

With musically's blessing, J0rdan S. and I will be handling the operation of this year's much anticipated year-end poll on ILM. Since seandalai's magical ballot tabulating machine proved so very valuable in the recent 20th Century poll, he too will be involved in that very capacity. More on the voting when the nominations period is complete, though.

Before midnight EST on January 2, 2011, you good people are charged with the following task(s):

* Nominate up to 20 albums and/or tracks in any configuration you choose. (20 albums, 0 tracks. OR 14 albums, 6 tracks. OR 3 albums, 17 tracks. OR...you get the idea, we hope)

* Make certain that these were albums and/or tracks released for the first time somewhere in the world during the year 2010. This would mostly apply to albums and/or tracks released in some region in 2009, but released to a broader audience in 2010. Let's not go back any further than 2008, however. ALSO, you may not nominate an album or a track from an album that has leaked ahead of its 2011 release date. IF a track from an upcoming 2011 album has already been commercially or officially released as a single, however, it DOES qualify.

* Please format your nominations like this:

ALBUMS

Artist - Album
Artist - Album

TRACKS

Artist - Song
Artist - Song

This makes keeping track of nominations SO MUCH EASIER for us.

* Consider mining these threads for ideas and/or refreshers. Also, contribute suggestions in those threads as well. That benefits everyone:

So, it's 11 days into 2010; what records are worth worth buying / hearing / downloading?
So, it's 338 days into 2010; what songs are worth buying / hearing / downloading?

Now, the nominations thread is officially opened!

If something came out as a single a year or so ago, but it came out on an album this year, is that acceptable to nominate?

If something came out as a single a year or so ago, but it came out on an album this year, is that acceptable to nominate?

Sounds fair to me, as long as it didn't place in last year's results.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Saturday, 11 December 2010 02:43 (fourteen years ago)

Okay. I'm thinking of things I never heard last year, never nominated, and that will almost certainly never place in the poll anyway.

Do DJ mixtapes count? Sorry to be so edgy all the sudden, but I'm taken with this tribal guarachero stuff and the only long playing format is going to be on mixtapes, I think. (And yes, as far as I can tell, 2010 is part of those Arabic album titles. They do that a lot.)

That's seventeen; I'm holding three nominations in reserve.

I'm just going to say, as I say every time, that I think the "20 albums and/or tracks" instead of a set number of noms for each category is really stupid and adds a pointlessly annoying level of strategy and maneuvering to the nominations process, and I strongly urge you to abandon it the next time you do one of these polls. Thanks.

Shamed realisation: off the top of my head I'm not sure I could name a single thing released this year. So I'm out.

In my defence it's been a retro year for me and I've had enormous amounts going on personally, but still. Makes the countdown a massive treat though, I'm comfortable with how I am. Looking forward to it.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 11 December 2010 14:35 (fourteen years ago)

There are definitely a few canonical choices in '90s electronic/dance, though. I mean, if 18 year-old rock dude version of me bought the Utah Saints album in 1992, it must've had a sizeable impact outside of the club scene.

it's an albums of new recordings they've been playing for a while, plus new new stuff.

I just want to clarify that these are not new recordings but tracks off previous releases. Nothing on this release is "new". They either come from previous lps/cd/7" records

Sorry to derail there, carry on.

Johnny Fever can you please delete this from the spreedsheet?

van smack, Sunday, 2 January 2011 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

Here's the thing (as I see it) on compilations:

A compilation of previously recorded material is kind of a new creation in its own way, whether it be by a single artist or by a variety of artists (though it's preferable on single artist comps to have SOME amount of new material). It's an album that's never been released before, even if it may contain previously released material.

Here's the thing (as I see it) on reissues:

When a full album that was previously released gets reissued intact or even in its original form with a few bonuses, that's not a NEW creation. It's nice to have, but it was also probably nice to have in whatever its original year of release was.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 2 January 2011 17:07 (fourteen years ago)

hmmm seems like the SCG would qualify, like that Minimal Wave Tapes that I think someone nommed

OK then, with that caveat I will nominate 2 more albums

Current 93 - Unreleased Rarities, Out-takes, Rehearsals And Live 82-95
Portion Control - Progress Report 1980-83

Current 93 is self explanatory, and the Portion Control has a ton of previously unreleased stuff on it.

11 hours left to nominate, btw!

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 2 January 2011 18:01 (fourteen years ago)

TRACK

Kayo Dot - Stained Glass

dunno if I might want to change one of my noms later but there's a definite chance

Boo Radely and the Super Fury Aminal (acoleuthic), Sunday, 2 January 2011 18:02 (fourteen years ago)

I just want to clarify that these are not new recordings but tracks off previous releases. Nothing on this release is "new". They either come from previous lps/cd/7" records

skip, Monday, 3 January 2011 02:16 (fourteen years ago)

I may as well throw a vote for the Lil Silva EP as this is all the attention it will get here. Its v solid and has provided many killer moments in funky sets this year, some immense clatter.

You snuck those in with no time to spare!

Nominations are now CLOSED.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Monday, 3 January 2011 05:11 (fourteen years ago)

Pretty sure that I'll be the only one voting for them anyway.

shaking my hamster (KMS), Monday, 3 January 2011 13:56 (fourteen years ago)

Somehow I'm happy to see more jazz nominations, even though I probably wouldn't like them. (I think I already had listened to some clips from the Jason Moran and wasn't into it.)

I see the ILM top 77 tracks results thread, but was there an album's results thread made? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

musicfanatic, Sunday, 30 January 2011 23:24 (fourteen years ago)
