Conan + Jandek Fan + Bass Clef = Interwebz FIASCO!!!1!1!1!

Some of you may have seen the bit on Conan recently, when a viewer posted a YouTube clip pointing out the misplaced bass clef in the show's intro:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFUphKoogw0

The fellow in question is also a Jandek fan (and on the Jandek mailing list), and he recently posted this account of the aftermath of his video (I'm re-posting it here with his permission.) The short version: a lot of people have no sense of humor and/or take things waaaaay too seriously!

Subject: [Jandek] My appearance on the Conan show.

Yes it is true... I did appear on Conan. I posted a video about how their intro graphics were messed up, during the graphic
for the house band, the bass clef was in the wrong place for the first four weeks of the show. I told Conan I was a bass
player and that it would be cool if he fixed it. I had no idea that it would be shown on the air... and I had no idea that the following days
would be nothing but hell. Threatening emails, people ripping into my and threatening my family on blogs, Yahoo.com
asked me if they could post something else of mine, I said no, then someone else from Yahoo went ahead and did it anyway.
I have had mostly bad responses... "get a life" "you are just a Fa*&^t who wants attention" etc.... you get the idea.
It has been nothing but hell.

In response... the cds on my rack are Jandek cds, but the top row and part of the second row down are my 68 solo albums
as well, I try to save ink and just do black and white bindings, save the color for the back tray and the booklet. This mailing list
is the only place on the internet besides my friends on facebook that have been supportive. It feels good to see that people recognized me for something that I am, a HUGE JANDEK FAN!

Hopefully soon, I will have the cash together to finally put out that Corwood approved Jandek Tribute album that was finished in
2008. If anyone has any idea on away I can get it printed and duplicated that isn't discmakers.com or diskfactory, I would be willing to put you in on a cut of the money made from the sales.

THANKS EVERYONE!

So what I'm taking away here is that Conan needs to introduce him when he opens for Jandek next month. (Which should happen.)

something funny about calling a hardcore jandek fan "a Fa*&^t who wants attention"

the internet has turned into nothing more than an anonymous way to beat the shit out of people you don't like

haha. that bit about the bass clef from tonight -- when conan talked about the couple of people over to the side of the audience that were vocally aghast when learning that the clef was in the wrong place on the staff, he was totally talking about andre and me. this is what happens when the peanut gallery can read music!

yeah, we were in the audience. conan joked that we were a "woodwind chamber orchestra" or something.

if nate reads this:

i just used these guys, but my order hasn't shipped yet so i can't vouch for the quality. the person i dealt with was very professional and the prices are good.

no need to give me a percentage, just send me a copy of the finished product!

is groovehouse way cheaper than discmakers? I used dm last time out, price was good but their artwork duplication came out too dark for an entire 1000 cd run which was a bummer.

b-but while the usual positioning of the bass clef is the one they moved it to, I think it's legit to have it in other positions - you can move it up and down as long as the line between the two dots on the clef still signifies the F below middle C. You sometimes see music scored for baritone voices or other instruments where the bass clef is lower than its standard position, so that more of the natural range of that voice/instrument fits on a single stave without needing leger lines.

(admittedly even this is quite rare and I've never seen it in the first position pictured, but then I am not much of a music reader)

So I asked wikipedia and while what I said is kinda true I was also overlooking the fact that with the bass clef pictured where Conan's graphics team had it, that makes the second line up the F below middle C, which makes second line down middle C itself, which would make it technically equivalent to the following clef:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/17/Tenor_clef_with_ref.svg/90px-Tenor_clef_with_ref.svg.png
which is the standard tenor clef, so there would be no point in using a non-standard bass clef. So I guess it's still not 100% wrong but it's a lot more wrong than I thought it was. Sorry Nate!

is groovehouse way cheaper than discmakers?

for the same order....

* 50 CD-Rs w/content & label print
* Black Text On-disc Printing
* Printed CD Jacket
* Poly Wrap
* Standard - 5 Day

diskmakers is $195.00 before tax (including $26 shipping), and groovehouse is $177.78 after tax (with $11.07 shipping). but groovehouse is in california and diskmakers is in new jersey, so the shipping cost is down to geography.

"with" in that post = "including"
